I asked this once before, but the answer... didn't work. My BG808 is hung, but I want to paint the cover black. The top case - no problem. But there are two case-color strips (not the chassis itself, but plastic strips that the cover itself mates to) that i can't figure out how to remove, and I want to know if it's possible with the PJ up.

Somebody said to take the four screws out, which I did, but the things are still going nowhere. It seems like they have to rotate out and down (with the PJ hung upside down) but the chassis flange is holding the 'top' in. Can anyone shed any light on this? I'm finally to the point where I can start covering up the ugly-ass mounts and getting this looking good, and getting that sucker painted black would be really nice!

Take out the 4 screws, then grab the bottom of the sides (that face the ceiling) and pull. There's plastic tabs that they hinge on, and lift out.

When I took mine off, I took the four screws off and grabbed the bottom of the panel ans pulled up. For you with it being ceiling mounted you would pull it toward the floor. There are four tabs that hook into the aluminum sides of the projector case.

You're going to feel silly when you figure out how easy they come off.

No doubt! Swear to god, I took those screws off and the panels don't seem to have the slightest give on any axis. Up, down, in, out... pitch roll yaw surge sway heave - nothing! It doesn't even seem like the screws are DOING anything, everything's nailed down so tightly... Confused I guess I'll have to have another try. I can see the little latches in there, and how the panels would tilt out, but they seem absolutely *rock solid*.

Is it possible the way you have mounted it to the ceiling is also retaining the covers?

I suppose it is - it didn't appear to be, but I didn't have enough time last time to get right up there and look around in detail. I'm holding it up by means of square aluminum bars fitted to the L-brackets front and back of the PJ - what it would sit on if it were on a table. I can't see how that would block the plastic bits far away from coming off...

Fly out yourself and do it, and I'll let you drive my motion simulator! Mr. Green

I'll try to have another go tomorrow. It's my son's first birthday party this coming weekend, so I'd like to get the PJ painted / mounts covered by then!

I don't suppose anyone has some pictures of an 808 without those panels on, so I have an idea what's going on in there?

I can take pics, and I'll have a look carefully how the covers attach - see if a mount could interfere.

Lucky for you I have an 808 sitting on a table in my shed - it arrived Saturday.

A pic here, not too helpful, but it's the best I have onhand (I'm at work).

You can see the covers on the ground.

I can't add the nifty little arrows. But the slots on the side are where the panels mount. If you look at the panels you can see the tabs I mentioned earlier.

I'm flying out tonight I was able to convince the airline to charge you for the the flight.

Oooohh, the whole thing is one piece - I assumed the different colored sections were different pieces, but apparently not. Yeah, can't really see exactly how it works from that pic, but it's something.

In other news... does that thing have two green tubes in it? Shocked

Yeah, the red has low output - I was testing it.

Read my 808 thread.

I just did. It's nice to think of my pride and joy being your disposable hulk... Wink

Anyway - I don't know if you guys have ever seen Spring Awakening, but there's a song in there that begins, "There's a moment you know - you're f*ck***!" and I had that moment this evening looking at the side panels. I think my mounts are preventing the panels from coming off: As I wrote above, they're aluminum bars (extrusions really..) going through the two L brackets - but they extend beyond the sides of the projector. Near as I can tell, the whole panel has to lift (or, with the PJ on the floor, drop) to allow the latches to disengage. But the panels won't lift with the mounting bars in the way...

So, yeah, I think I'm f*ck***. Neutral I may have to live with a beige projector... gonna be hell on the decor, but no way I can think of to paint the thing up on there, and sure as hell no way it's coming down!

Ah well, that just depends on what your other projector is - mine is an XG-LC. If I had a 9"er the XG would be disposable.

To make you feel better I've had a couple of PG Xtras that were used for learning to do a mech white balance (big deal on NEC), or given away.

The point of the disposable hulk Barco is to learn Barco's, as I would like a better Barco one day - there is no better NEC you see.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind a Cine9 myself. At least my 808 is color filtered now - which makes one hell of a difference. At some point it might get LC-ified, though honestly if I can get optical setup better and the red tube resolving well, it's so freakin' good PQ-wise that my effort may be better spent on other aspects of the HT (audio / 2.35 masking / ambience / HTPC setup).

Anyway, can someone confirm that those sides have to slide up (down) a little bit to unlatch? If so, I'm gonna have to either figure out some way to paint the suckers in place (!???!!) or live with the beige...

Yes, they need to slide towards the base, about 5mm.

Your mount is the problem.
