Ok, so whats the deal with them removing threads over at AVS? If Gary is hawking a product there and there are issues with it or his service (which seems to be the case in an extreme sense), then people should know about it.

Finally, the news we've all been waiting for. Sony today announced that the new BD mega changers will be available soon.
I think I'll buy one and have it drop-shipped to Gary for a HD-SDI mod Thumbs Up

holy crap batman! that was some drama. I can't believe the patience of the Dean (or Frankin - haha) from that thread. What a piece of work. I bought a Toshiba HD-DVD player (A3) from Gary that had reportedly played only 2-3 movies on it for $50. Then I started noticing dotted vertical lines when using it. I had read the negative threads about him so I just gave it up before attempting anything. the delays to ship to me were not near as bad as Dean's but recalling it took long delay, then snowed in, then snowed in AGAIN, then delay, then shipped. no email to confirm shipment or tracking. It all smelt of elderberries to me.

Yea patience is a fault of mine! Along with appreciating meticulous good work! It got better today! I talked to a lawyer (God I hate doing that almost as bad as dealing with Gary) and am currently getting all the required information for him. I then talked to the owner of the "other" real SDI company that got the SDI to work and found out some very interesting things that happened to my player without my knowledge or my input. When I receive all the facts in print I will let you know what a second to none scumbag he is. He actually told this owner that "The owner of the 9000 has it back and is very happy with the results" It works so good I'm listing it on ebay for the hearing impaired because it has no audio!!!! Maybe I've inadvertently found a niche for Gary! modifying DVD/CD players for the hearing impaired!!!

Guess I'm another lucky one.

Bought an SDI modded Panasonic RP56 from him way back. Everything went well with the transaction and the player worked fine. I opened the box and was less than impressed with the wiring etc but the end result was good. The image off this player fed to my iscan HD+ SDI I/P was better than stock but I did not realize how much better until I sold the RP56 and went back to an RP62 while I was in the process of switching to Blu-Ray. Same PJ (XG1352) and processor except now component out. The image was much softer.
Then came Blu-Ray and the PS3 was in and Panny out.
Also for the record.
I can not remember the persons name but I did sell the SDI Modded RP56 and the new owner was also happy.

I'm in the camp that believes he has minimal electronics knowledge and wiring/soldering skills. I believe he means well but has zero cash and has bitten off more than he can chew. We can all screw up but in his case he does not have the means to make it right and therefore has to look for ways of deflecting his responsibility.

I just feel lucky after reading this thread.

hmph. essentially they are protecting Gary and helping him rip off more people.

My story is pretty similar - i asked him to build a couple of cases for some transformers that i had bought. i just didn't have the time to do it myself and he seemed on the up and up. it took about a year and only when i demanded a refund did i get the boxes.

until then, his Grandpa got cancer - he built the boxes the wrong size because "he looked at an old spec sheet with different sizes" (i showed him the dated PDF that proved he was full of it). and through out he kept trying to sell me his transformers instead.

big big pain the *ss to get what i had paid for.

i really wish that the threads about Gary would stay on AVS so that he people would be forewarned and he would stop getting away with this crap.

Dracoskeeper - you having your lawyer name AVS?

I gave him a choice of giving me a full refund including shipping and all of my original parts and packaging back and I would walk away "a lesson learned". But since then he will not communicate with me! My lawyer is going after him for what I paid for the player (and or a suitable replacement in the same 9 of 10 scale condition) what I paid for the Signature audio mods and what the "real" SDI company will charge me to do an acceptable, working SDI mod. I think that I was more than patient and gave him more than enough chances to make this right but he put both of us in this situation. I will tell you this the "real" SDI company (who wishes not to named in open forums) is way more upset than me. After they received the emails where Gary implies they are responsible because in his words it was fully functional when he sent it to them. His proof is his email to me that he fixed it! Because he has been so trustworthy up until this point! They did him a favor even fixing his screw up and told him that. They also told him and I that they don't test anything but video because that is all they work on. I'm working on getting the owner to allow me to post copies (without any private info) of those emails that he sent me. When I post copies of all the pertinent information in the messages between Gary, myself and the "real" SDI company it is clearly apparent that Gary screwed up the player, then sent a dead player to the "real" SDI company. Which they promptly refused and sent back to him because their policy is not to accept nonworking units period. He then suckered me out of more money for parts that he should have paid for, claims he fixed it (his proof is a message of the movie and cd he says he listened to!) He then sent it back to the "real" SDI company when they told him not to! When they had time to look at it they corrected what he could not and got the SDI working and shipped it to me. After they almost saved his A$$ literally he slanders them and implies that they must be responsible for me now owning Denon's only 50 pound boat anchor.
I was also referred to this FBI website by Paypal (www.ic3.gov) which I'm filing a complaint with. It appears the FBI is very interested and people like Gary who operate on the internet unethically.
If I can I will repost all the communications between myself and the parties Gary brought into this and would request a member here link to that over at that other forum. I do not post much at any forum I belong to mainly because I am a retired fireman with 75% of my lumbar spine fused and I can't sit long. I mostly troll for information and expertise and send pm's to people I think know their stuff. I will try and get this posted today or tomorrow.

I will stand firm in my belief that standard good quality 14 gauge speaker cable at 25 cents a foot sounds no different than any esoteric brand out there. Smile

What kind of silver coated, techflex wrapped, personally engraved boutique cables are you buying? Monoprice has 12 gauge for 23 cents a foot. Mr. Green Seriously, I tested their premium component cables and they were pretty good. I would definitely buy this cable if I was in need of some speaker cable.

As for the debate on cable, I agree for the most part with Curt. I did spend some time braiding Cat 5 into a speaker cable and it did make a difference. The problem was that it wasn't a fair comparison as the Cat 5 is probably a 10 gauge wire and I was using I think 18 gauge before.

These are my favorite audio tweaks. For married men, this will get wives more jewelery than they know what to do with. wife - "Hey, honey why does it look like there are power lines running across the floor?" husband - "It gives the sound more air, because it isn't touching the floor." wife - "How much did you pay for these?" husband - "You know we haven't been to the jewelery store in awhile."Smile

Oh and lexx, don't you realize that stapling them to the wall will remove that air? Wink

Curt,
You are bad. Mr. Green

I should tell my story with Gary. I think the only people I have told are Bruce and Mark. I believe I told tse and Darin over lunch, but I can't remember. First, I must confess that I never particularly cared for Gary, but I softened my stance until I was pretty neutral about him.
Anyway, I had an XG that had black tubes and didn't want to spring for new tubes. So, I decided to part it out. Gary had purchased an XG and was having difficulty with it. I sent him a PM stating that I had some parts that I could sell him. He was interested and we agreed on a price of $300 for all of the boards from an XG LC. I boxed up the boards in bubble wrap and shredded newspaper. I used newspaper, because one of my suppliers found that his claims went to zero after using shredded newspaper. If you have ever received anything from my supplier, then you could see why.
I sent the box to Gary through USPS. When he received it, he emailed me saying that the boards where extensively damaged and that my packing wasn't that great. It is probably fair to criticize my packing as I am not a professional shipper. He decided that he wanted to send them back. This is where it gets interesting. His idea was to send them back and when I received them make a claim with USPS. In this manner, I could get some money for the damaged goods. I felt a little uneasy about this, but agreed. When I got them back, his packing was worse. I guess he was doing this so the parts could break easier. Upon inspection, I think two boards were damaged. One had some caps that were knocked off. The other I can't remember, but I think it wasn't to bad. I sent pics to Mark and I remember him saying something like "I thought Gary was a pro solder and electronics expert. He should have been able to put the caps back on in a couple of minutes.". I pretty much thought the same thing (Mark, if you don't want me using your name then I will remove the comment).
I ended up not making a claim with USPS, as I didn't think it was right to penalize the USPS. To this day, I still think either Gary tried the boards and didn't like them or more likely had something else lined up.

More likely he swapped your good boards for his bad boards and made up that story so he didn't have to pay you.

Is there any way to know if it was your boards he shipped back?

It has been so long ago, but I think I remember thinking the same thing. I believe they were though.

I still like going over to AVS, but they are pretty much just about sales now. AVS kind of reminds me of one of those supposed educational seminars, but are really just a thinly veiled sales seminar.

Look, I am getting close to a 10 page thread. I have never had a 10 page thread. Mr. Green

Gary's like the yippy dog that snaps at your heels, but when you confront him, he goes and hides. I know he can't read any of this as Kal blocked his IP.

As I've said a number of times, you can make fun of my family, my looks, my mama, I don't give a crap. Tell me I don't know what I'm doing with electronics, or that I'm ripping people off, and my back goes up bigtime.

I was completely immature and inappropriate with my last set of PMs to Gary at avs, and his responses seemed that he was taking pleasure in poking me with a stick and then running away. Dumbass!

Don't bitch about avs though, I'm sure they are feeling the pinch of the economy as well, and you can bet the cost of running their site is pretty astronomical. I think they run a pretty tight ship over there, they don't want the risk of a lawsuit over libel. Here, I don't give a crap, as I know Gary doesn't have money to hire a lawyer. I wonder if he actually has a registered company in Kentucky, along with business insurance, etc?

Actually, if he wasn't a total idiot he could easily read and post here if he wanted to, Google and about 20 seconds of reading produces this:

Surely there must be something else in the world to complain about. How about the President calling the police stupid. Anything but another page about Gary. He might as well still be here. If all else fails let's talk porn Mr. Green
