Peri, You run a legitimate business because you don't want to field questions from people like Gary.
Plus we would loose total respect for you if you were one of those buy my "magic cables" guy!!!! |
Hey!!!
I resent that! Johnco cabling are made to the highest standards, and bring UN-BELIEVABLE performance!

| WTS wrote: | drag,
The longer the speaker cable the worse the damping factor looks (to the speaker) provided by the amp, add to that a crossover comprised of typically a cap and a inductor and now your damping factor might as well be zip.
Go to at least bi-amping and drive your bass driver directly from your amp with a couple feet of cable. Of course having an amp with a high damping factor will help tighten up the bottom end too. And of course that brings up the bass driver and its enclosure too. All these contribute to just how tight of bass you'll get.. |
Well I can shorten the speaker cables, that's not a problem. however my amps are pretty decent pieces, I have a pair of these and would like to keep them
http://www.monarchyaudio.com/STreview.html
Also, 12" woofers aren't really an option as my speakers are slim and the front wall can't accomodate monster towers
| WTS wrote: | Actually I just about forgot about another very important factor in getting tight bass - GET RID OF THE HUGE EL CAPS IN THE POWER AMPS! THose things are just bad news when it comes to good sound.
| Looks like 4 big EL caps in the SM-70 pro. What do you mean get rid of them? Replace with what?

Go listen either to a concert bootleg or AM radio for that matter. At turnon, your brain tells you that the recording or playback is sub quality, but listen to it for 1/2 hour, and unless you switch to a studio CD, it starts to sound pretty good all by itself. I record a lot of bootlegs, and find that every time I listen to one. | I have never heard this before, crap always sounds like crap and instead of getting used to it I usually turn it off after 15 minutes. I actually heard my Quad's at a shop sounding terrific first time I sat down. When I got my pair I thought they were defective. I finally remembered some forum comments about the 100 hour break in so I waited. they slowwwly started to sound better the longer I ran them but it took a long time., weeks actually.
