couldn't agree more, a lot of that stuff feels like and ice-pick being driven into your ear but the Bass sucks.

Well I can shorten the speaker cables, that's not a problem. however my amps are pretty decent pieces, I have a pair of these and would like to keep them

Also, 12" woofers aren't really an option as my speakers are slim and the front wall can't accomodate monster towers

I have never heard this before, crap always sounds like crap and instead of getting used to it I usually turn it off after 15 minutes. I actually heard my Quad's at a shop sounding terrific first time I sat down. When I got my pair I thought they were defective. I finally remembered some forum comments about the 100 hour break in so I waited. they slowwwly started to sound better the longer I ran them but it took a long time., weeks actually.
