|
|
I just went through my first white balance on my 6PG XTRA using Kal's instructions (good job Kal!). I found it to be pretty far off with a big blue hump just as predicted. I have the delta E at 7 or less at most points, but below 30 IRE green goes up very fast while blue and red start to drop off very fast. I first though this might be the sensor (eye one), but looking at the picture at 10 an 20 IRE it looks green. In the instructions Kal recommends setting the G2 pot to insure that the tubes are turning on at the same time. I have searched the site for information about how to locate the G2 pots on a 6PG XTRA, but I can't find anything in the manuals. I am feeding the PJ a 1080p signal from my blue ray player through a Moome box. So I have two questions.
1) Where are the G2 pots located?
2) Does anyone have an idea about why I am getting so much green below 30 IRE with red and blue drop off?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Bill

Please, before you attack the G2 pots, let us know how you are adjusting the colour on the Xtra.
You make no mention of the Kelvin W and B adjustments, which is where you start.
Kal wrote those instructions with a Barco in mind. If you tweak the G2 pots on a NEC you will probably end up with a basket case that only Curt can fix.
You can adjust G2 on an Xtra, but it is a very complex procedure, involving a series of test patterns, a scope and you really have to be shown how to interpret a couple of the patterns, it's not easy.

Thanks for the reply Mark. Yes, I used the the Kelvin B & W adjustments with blue defocus to reach the point I am at. I have not touched the G2 pots and am not really sure where they are. However I would like to get better gray at 10 and 20 IRE. It is really dark green rather than gray. Anyone else have this problem or know to improve this situation?

My XTRA will sync at 1080P allthough I am no doubt getting some scan line overlap. I might get a better result at 1080I, but I have not tried this yet. I did read one post where someone could not get their 6PG XTRA to sync at 1080P but I have not had a problem.
