this is the correct error |
I am getting this "index and length must refer to a location within the string" error as well. I think it happens just before or when mkvmerge is started because what I end up with are the demuxed audio and video files in the working directory and I have no problem muxing them into an mkv manually with mkvmerge GUI.
Might be helpful to know that I am getting the exact same error when using the "eac3to and more" GUI, also apparently just before or at the start of the mkvmerge phase.
This is the output of the "show last eac3to run" command:

Hi,
It looks like you might not have a default language set in the options dialog. If not enter English in the Default Language text box, or what ever is your default langauge.

Thank you, that was it! I put "English" in the language default field, and now it works perfectly.

I'll make English the default in the next release. It can always be changed by the user if they want a different language.

I have been seeing an audio sync problem, At the start of all movies converted by anotherac3to the audio is spot on and as the movie plays it becomes slightly off by the end it’s way off. It’s about a .5 second delay by the end of a 2-hour movie.
This might have something to do with me using BDrebuilder encodes as my source.

I use ReClock to even out lip sync issues. (32 Bit Only) it also helps with smooth motion. Once you install reclock you should watch a few movies and see if it fixes your problem.

What player and OS are you using...32 or 64 Bit? What's BDRebuilder?

Thanks for the answer. Yes, I was drilling down to that folder. The issue is that the path is "P:\Videos\Ripped Videos\MovieName\BDMV\Stream," not "P:\Videos\Ripped\MovieName\BDMV\Stream"
If I change the path to take out the space and use RippedVideos instead of Ripped (space) Videos, it works fine. Obviously this is a workaround I can do on my own, but I thought you might want to review the code so that source directories with spaces included work without extra effort.
Thanks.

I'm using Zoomplayer 6.0 and running vista32. BD rebuilder is a great program that re-encodes BD movies to your choice of sizes BD5,BD9 or BD25. http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?s=ffa424950a431611ef4b6f1271ab6938&f=75
I never had this kind of an issue if playing from the ISO or original disc with PDVD8 or TMT3.
I installed reclock and playing the same movie and skipping forward to the end made no change, it was still out od sync. I'm letting it play and I will check every hour to see if it is buffered and possibly corrected.

This is going to sound like the typical software developer question. Do mkv files have lip sync issues when you don't use BDrebuilder?

I'll re-rip and let you know. BDRB is great even if it is creating the sync issue. I'm still using it because it is the best (or so I have read) at encoding BD files. Most backups don't need lossless audio 448 ac3 is fine and archiving to a BD5 size is preferable. The handful that have great soundtracks I save to a BD25 and the HDaudio is untouched. These are the files I use anotherac3to on. The finish product is always small enough to fit on a much cheaper BD25 disc.
I'm still grateful to you for your program I have been having a lot of fun messing with it for the last few weeks. The benefit of lossless Flac audio is undeniable on certain movies.

Try using AAC audio. Best of both worlds IMO. I haven't been able to detect the difference between any lossless original track, out of the few samples I tried, the FLAC'd version or the AAC (NeroAacEnc @ -q 0.50) encoded version at ~400kbps. AAC at ~400kbps will grossly outperform ac3 @ 448kbps.
Mike's next release just might include an option for AAC alongside FLAC.

Mike, just some feedback about the standby issues.
With the latest version it seems to work fine, in that I set the batch running, went to the shed, and when I came back hours later the monitor was off and the job had finished successfully.
So, it's not going into standby in the mkvMerge stage anymore, and I don't think there are any monitor staying on when it shouldn't issues anymore.
Thanks

Thanks Mark, your tip on remuxing to a different drive has been a big hit too. With my fast AMD box I seldom see a MKV conversion take longer then an hour...Most are in the 30-40 minute range.

That's about how long it takes me too (40mins)...If I do it command line and don't select any subtitles.
If I do select subtitles (or use your gui which does that), then it takes longer, maybe 1.5hrs. The subs really slow it down.
Anyway, it's no big deal, it hasn't caused an issue for me, and the one gui solution is well worth the extra time.
Thanks
Mark

just made a successful mkv of ratatouille.
what i ended up doing:
- uninstalled shark007 win7 and x64 codecs.
- uninstalled haali
- installed the newest shark007 win7 and x64 codecs and configured them
- noticed that shark was using the v1.9.63.13 of haali, so i installed the version that you posted
- that seemed to change what version the win7 codecs used, but it still lists the newer version in the x64 codec config, and the 1.9.42.1 in the x32 config... i'm no codec expert, so i'm not sure exactly how that is working, best guess is i currently have 2 versions of haali installed, one x32 and one x64
- reran another attempt at ripping ratatouille with your app and success!
let me know if you want any other info on what i did or have installed to help with the debugging/dev process, but i think that's all i did.
thanks much! |
Great!...That's good info to know...I will probably note it on the original post and provide a link to the above version Haali.
Thanks for the help figuring this out.

well, just ran into the same problem i was having with 'ratatouille' when trying to rip 'run fat boy run'
exact same experience, same popup asking to manually select audio track with no audio tracks available to select.
i haven't changed any codecs/halli versions, etc since the successful ratatouille rip, and have ripped a few others successfully since then...
i'm stumped.

Download and install the version linked below, this is a version with AAC audio conversion I've been testing. Then click on Tools>EAC3to Info and paste the results here.
Also double check and make sure your default language is set, after you set it close the program then restart.
There was a problem where that was not being set correctly sometimes after an upgrade.
