Ahh...That's an error reading the disk. A couple of things might be wrong...Make sure AnyDVD-HD is current if that doesn't work try ripping copying the disk to the hard drive and run the demux from there. If you cannot copy the disk to the hard drive then the disk is bad or the blu-ray drive is a little bit flakey. I've had disks that do that and they won't copy to the hard drive. I take the disk to another computer with a different blu-ray drive and they works fine, go figure!

Hi - Did a HD-DVD --> MKV conversion and the resultant E-AC3 (DD+) track was reencoded as AC3 even though I had checked the "HD Audio Track" option. Is this the correct behaviour as now FFDSHOW can play this format I'd rather keep it nativly.
Thanks

I'm not sure. I only have I think 4 HD-DVD disks so I don't have much experience ripping them. Perhaps someone else will know.

Added support for movie name checking and image downloads with http://www.themoviedb.org. This feature is not enabled by default. You must turn it on, go to the Tools menu and select "Image Download Options". Also support for non-forced subtitles. Lower CPU useage while archiving. A new status bar that warns the use if there is not enough disk space is available in the work folder or final file location.
Check the option "Download movie info & images from themoviedb.org"

Has anyone else had problems with the move Life? I get an error for automatic audio detection, and it does not detect the video correctly either (but no error). On manual application, the GUI uses the extension .ac3 for both the audio and video streams, which EAC3TO barfs on. Using the manual command line with proper edits works fine.

Those look like great features Mike.
Do you have an upgrade feature built-in or are we supposed to un-install and re-install the application?
I hate to break it now because it has been working flawlessly.

You can just install over the original...None of the settings get over written.

Another EAC3to GUI also has issues with DTS-HD Hi-Res. On the Life UK Blu-Ray, it attempts to output both the 1080i50 stream and the DTS-HD Hi-Res stream as AC3.
For example, here is the command line it gives me:
"L:\Blu-Ray\LIFE_D1" 2) 1: "D:\In Process\MyMKVFile - Chapters.txt" 2: "D:\In Process\MyMKVFile - 2 VC-1 1080i50 (16.ac3" 3: "D:\In Process\MyMKVFile - 3 DTS Hi-Res English 5_1 channels 16 bits 2046kbps 48kHz.ac3" -core 4: "D:\In Process\MyMKVFile - 4 English Subtitle.sup" -log="D:\In Process\MyMKVFile - Log.txt"
Of course, eac3to is perfectly capable of outputting both VC-1 1080i50 and DTS-HD Hi-Res. You just have to change the extensions to *.mkv and *.dts (for core).
Feature Requests-
1) The last time I used Another EAC3to GUI, the final MKV output lacked language codes for the audio or subtitle tracks. The tracks were left at the default (undetermined). Where the language track is known, can you instruct MKVMerge to correctly mark the language?
2) Include an option to dither a lossless track to 16 bits. This halves the filesize, and numerous ABX tests reflect that there is no meaningful difference between 16 bit and 24 bit audio tracks for listening. 24 bit audio provides greater dynamic range which is useful in the mastering process. The 96 dB dynamic range provided by 16 bit audio is totally sufficient for nearly every other purpose, and it's basically impossible to differentiate 16 and 24 bit audio in any normal circumstance.
3) Make it possible to do the two step eac3to demux + MKVMerge with a custom command line.

Hi Jason,
Eac3to doesn't seem to work very reliable with interlaced VC-1. This is been confirmed my madshi. See the linked where he posted on doom9 recently. I have not been able to get a good rip of the disk yet with eac3to.
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1409670#post1409670
I tried using MakeMKV and it seemed to work ok, however I haven't watched the whole show yet to see how it came out.

Number 1 and 2 seem like reasonable requests and should not be very hard. The track naming seems like a very good idea. On the audio resampling let me know what command line switch you want and where in the CL to insert the resampling switch, I can also provide a check box in the advanced options dialog to turn it on. If you want to experiment use the command line button.
For #3 what most people have been doing is using the GUI for demuxing using the command line button then use MKVMerge GUI to remux if they want to do things like add second audio track. MKVMerge has so many options and MKVMerge GUI is decent tool IMO its best to use it. Again if there is command line option you would like to see added I can added it to the advanced options dialog then it will be inserted every time you run a batch.

Thanks for the quick reply! Fortunately, Life UK Blu-Ray is not in fact interlaced. It appears as 1080i50 because the Blu-Ray spec doesn't support 1080p25, however the video is progressive. I remuxed all of the episodes, and haven't had any issues with playback. The only episode which is in fact 1080i is Ep. 9 (Plants).

#1 would be very helpful. That's one of the reasons I manually merge with MKVMerge.
#2: The commandline option for dithering to 16 bit is "-down 16". For example,
eac3to.exe "K:\Blu-Ray\GREEN_ZONE\" 1) 2: "D:\In Process\video.2.mkv" 5: "D:\In Process\audio.english.5.flac" -down16
#3: I've been doing just that. I usually merge manually to give meaningful titles to each audio and subtitle track, and to dither to 16 bit FLAC. If I could do both without editing the command line, I wouldn't need to merge manually. That would certainly save some time.
I have another suggestion that I forgot to mention in my last post. Could you add chapter titles in exported chapter list. You could simply entitle each chapter with "Chapter" followed by its respective #. For example, "Chapter 1", "Chapter 2" etc. This makes finding a chapter more pleasant; otherwise you just see a bunch of timecodes. It should be fairly easy to implement. I know that Eac3to and More GUI does this.
The final file would look something like this:
CHAPTER01=00:00:00.000
CHAPTER01NAME=Chapter 1
CHAPTER02=00:07:49.240
CHAPTER02NAME=Chapter 2
CHAPTER03=00:21:26.120
Thanks again for the prompt reply and assistance.

I've gotten a similar error before. In that case, it was a bad disc (scratched). I assume that eac3to failed because it could not read the disk at that file position. In any case, it doesn't look like a problem with Another EAC3to GUI. Rather, it's an error with the underlying eac3to demux process.

CHAPTER01=00:00:00.000
CHAPTER01NAME=Chapter 1
CHAPTER02=00:07:49.240
CHAPTER02NAME=Chapter 2
CHAPTER03=00:21:26.120
Thanks again for the prompt reply and assistance. |
The Chapter thing will take a little more time but again is a very good idea. I assume you only want to down sample HD audio track when converting to FLAC? Does the -down16 even work on AC3/DTS? On the track naming...If you could attach a screen cap of what you enter in MKVMerge that would be great. That way we can get it right the first time.

eac3to can output E-AC3 just fine. Just change the file extension to *.eac3 and it'll rip the untouched audio. The GUI should really do that automatically.

You just edit the text file BEFORE adding it to MKVMerge. eac3to and More GUI outputs two text files - the original chapter file and the edited one with chapter titles. Then you add the edited chapter file to MKVMerge as you would any other chapter file. When I did it manually, I just added the titles in Notepad.
Well, technically lossy audio doesn't have a bit depth. However, you can choose to output it at any arbitrary bit depth. I actually tried outputting DTS-HD Hi-Res, which can't be decoded by MPC-HC or ffdshow, as 16 bit FLAC but it was distorted, so I just used the DTS core.
It *should* let you output AC3 or DTS at any bit depth, including 16, but I have never actually tried it. There is usually no point to converting a lossy format to lossless. The only good reason to do so would be for DTS-HD Hi-Res since it is not supported by any common decoders, so if you want the extension, you have to encode it losslessly.
Fortunately, the only Blu-Ray release I've seen that used DTS-HD Hi-Res is the Life series. Everything else I've seen using DTS-HD Master Audio, which can be dithered to 16 bit without issue. I would venture a guess that the Arcsoft DTS Decoder is simply screwing up when decoding the stream, whereas it works fine with Master Audio.
However, I only want to dither to 16 bit for lossless tracks (TrueHD, DTS-HD MA and LPCM).

HD-DVD support is very marginal at best...I only own about 6 disks to test with and there are several naming conventions they used for audio tracks. The movie "300" I've never gotten to work, finally just gave up and bought the blu-ray, $13.99 at Amazon well spend.

In this case, the problem can be easily remedied. Just change the extension for E-AC3 tracks to "eac3" rather than "ac3". BTW, is the "default" extension AC3? It seems that way as it outputs interlaced VC-1, DTS-HD Hi-Res and E-AC3 as AC3.

Chadd...try to copy the disk to the hard drive with AnyDVD-HD then rip it from there. Sometimes on marginal disks I've sqeeked by that way. If it won't copy then it's a bad disk for sure.
