As the title says, a planetarium customer of mine is looking for an RS 232 controllable BluRay player. Anyone make one yet?

I found this, not sure if anything has changed since 2008.

Denon DVD-2500BTCI, $999 . Digital only (no analog video out, ie component), now $350

Denon DVD-3800BDCI, $1999. Lots of analog video outputs, now $872

Marantz BD8002, $2099, but that's supposedly a rebadged Denon 3800. Not yet released though, now $1400

Yamaha BD-S2900, $1200 MSRP. now $775

The new Oppo player looks like it has serial control, too...

Order an Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray player today from Amazon for $499 using this link and help support our forum!

Curt

The RS-232 control is an option on the Oppo BDP-83 ($89). You have to special order the player with the option installed.

Ah, I missed that - thanks.

The Sony BDP-S5000ES and 2 or 3 of the Pioneer players also have serial.

So, there are more than half a dozen players that have serial control, now.

Now why would Curt want to support the forum? Just kidding, sorry for the lame joke.

Please don't ban me.

Of those listed, I'd recommend the Oppo - the others that I've seen that have 232 support don't really give you any feedback, so there's no real benefit to controlling them serially over IR. The Oppo seems to give you quite a bit of feedback, IIRC.
