Is this a good idea?
I do not want to re-invent the wheel here…and I am a mechanical guy not an electric guy… FYI only…
Hi I am new in the CRT world, I just got my Sony VPH1251q and got error 10 or high voltage display error….long story I got it fixed by cleaning and re-welding affected components at boards CD & E… now, even when I notice that there is not much heat when the CRT operates I do not want to deal with error 10 again, I would like to "over protect" the unit by adding one intake and one exhaust fan via external transformer and a heatsink also if it fits in place, since I notice that the unit comes ready for an additional fan slot to be placed on the LH side (looking from the back of the unit)…
Currently my Sony VPH1251q has one very small intake fan on the back of the unit (air intake) and two on the top beside the keypad and one more on the rh side (looking from the back of the unit) (exhaust purposes)…
This is a floor mounted unit in case you have any suggestion…
`I am trying to also add a cloth/foam back filter (for air circulation and dust collection) and a rubber mat between the new fans and the surface to avoid noise level increases, this unit is currently very quiet and I want to keep it that way…
I am just wondering if I should buy a heatsink also for the intake purposes or just the fan will suffice the intended purpose….
Is this a good idea?

I wouldn't bother. the 12XX chassis is one of the most reliable out there, and at a typical 12-15 years old now, I'd expect the odd failure at this point.

I did added 3-1 oil to the 4 mini-fans to prevent noise and wear, even when my unit is from 1996 or so, it looks very align and sharp, and I only have 420p and 720p inputs, the X-box 360 s.ignal. is being converted by the KSD-trasponder to Composite, just want to make the unit last as long as possible until I have enough for a mid kind projector, starter one for now is very very good,,,
thanks for the advise,,,,,
