I just bought some HD10L lenses. Will these be any better than the HD10-GT17 lenses on my 1209s? My screen is 85" horizontally and I was thinking that these lenses would be closer to the center of their focus range at that width. Does this make sense or did I just waste my money?

Oof. I think that's too wide a screen for the 10L's, I think they're spec'd for somewhere in the 75" range IIRC. I ran my 10L's on a 67" wide screen and they were great for that.

I think they'll be fine, MP 's screen is not much larger and he uses the 10L's .

So Kruger you got those for 57 +45 shipping not bad!!! I was looking at them but forgot, i was going to test all the different HD 10's I have for the blend to see which focus best at the edges. I have almost one set of each type !!

I am finding this new found love of the 10Ls kind of funny. It seems not to long ago that people were bitching and complaining that a lot of the Marquees came with the 10Ls. Now, they might be as valuable as gold.Smile

I don't think they can resolve as well as the GT-17's. Only 10 lines vs 12 lines for the 17's.

71" max wide on 9500.
I believe They will focus ok in the center and the very outside edges but the zone where the inner and outer lenses "blend" with each other will be blurry. It's been a long time but I was never able to dial these in on my friends 96" wide screen and 8500LC.

I am not saying I love them just that I will test them. When I had my 9500LC set up temporarily it was about 84 inches wide and they seemed to focus well all around. I never got a chance to put the other lens's in to compare so I can't say which does better on a small screen. I have the HD10's , HD10L's , HD10F's and the HD10GT17's.

I have HD-10L's on my 9500LC shooting on a 83" wide Draper screen (79" surface). I'm not seeing any problems at all.

Now, it's been known for a long time that there was a problem with the HD-10L's on the right side about 1' inwards from the edge.

Then it was mentioned that that same problem was not on every set of HD-10L's, only an earlier version of the lens.

When we had the problem with the HD-10's the solution was simple, we upgraded to GT-17's. And that was only when the HD-10L's were used on larger screens.

Gary M. is having a problem with his HD-10L's that's puzzling me, because I have almost the same width screen and things are flawless here.

Is there some way to tell which lenses have the problems?

Mike, what is distance from screen to projector with that hd-10L / 79" screen combo? And that 79" is screen width (not diagonal dimensions) . Just asking this, because i have 71" wide screen and plain HD-10 does not work good with that screen, and i may have HD-10L :s here in near future.

I measured 98 inches from the screen to the green CRT.

The screens surface measures 79" in width.

I'm not familiar with Plain HD-10's. But with a 71" wide screen, the HD-10L would be the best way to go.

Put up a low rez (480P) image. Look for scan lines on the tube face. Should be big honkin scan lines. Try to focus those straight 10's on those scan lines. That will quickly show you how poorly straight 10's perform on small screens.
I experimented with these lenses 4-5 years ago when I was having problems focusing on a 120 inch 4:3 screen. I was unable to see scan lines at 960P on screen when they were clearly viewed on the tube face. The projector had not been mounted yet and was still on a cart. I found that when setting the lens adjustments to exact center points that I had to pull the projector back quite a bit before the scan lines showed on screen. I estimated that to be about a 130+ diagonal 4:3 screen.
You will not get any better performance from GT-17's trying to use them on a screen size that 10L's are optimized for.

Blending seems to be the big rave now. I never will but if I were to and I was considering a 100" wide screen, I would not think twice about using 10L's for it and would suggest GT-17's for a blended 140-160 inch screen

Thanks, now i have little more info, that if my ceilingmount have enough range to move projector to proper distance.

Isn't this kinda what I was talking about here?

https://www.curtpalme.com/forum_archived/viewtopic.php@t=16735.html

I have GT-17 Lenses. Not that I'm going to replace them, but isn't there a correlation?

Just trying to connect the theories.
