Yeah, Well, Uh, what causes that black soot that coats the inside of my Marquee? Can it be stopped?

Your problem is you got some of these little bastards in there. They probably hide under the HVPS when you open the case.
You'll want to be getting in there with a thick pair of gloves on, and have a bucket of water to plunge the miserable peckers into once you've got 'em. If one of 'em gets loose he's going to end up under your couch, and then things start to get really bad.

How'd Gozer get loose again?
I am just trying to understand what the soot is a by product of? Is it the high voltage leads leaking/ arcing? Or is it the tubes at the neck board/ tube leads causing the soot. Or is it all of the parts inside working in concert. Will using a dielectric grease on anything slow this down or will that cause a problem?
Or is it just the way Gozer works.
I think the 9500 has a new nick name now. Gozer, I like it
GOZER

All CRT televisions of all types suffer from dirt accumulation due to the attraction of dust and dirt by the large static charge they build up
from the CRT anode voltage. It's attracted to the CRT and gets on everything else in the process.

It burns allllll the way through.

Funny I was saying to my G/F I wish I knew your number.
You told me where your restaurant was once but it fell off my PM list. You should PM me with it again and include a phone number. I need to go to Buffalo atleast 2 more times this year.
