I know some of you are running your G70's and XG's at 1080p. I've tried some 1080p and 960p resolutions setup with PowerStrip but can't center or size adequately.

When I run 1920x1080 or 1440x960 the image rides high on the raster. I would have to tilt the PJ down to compensate.

I'm confident my mechanical setup is good and I'm postive my raster centering is very good.

I'm running rasters maximized and I know that makes corner focus difficult. Could this affect my ability to run 1080p.

So what did you do to get 1080p to run?

Move the image with the porches.

Please post the timings you are trying.

And what refresh rate are you using? The lower the better...and I'd suggest 1080i 96hz if 1080i 48hz has too much flicker.

Mark,

I run 60Hz. I've tried 48 before but the flicker was annoying.

Strange thing, I tried the timing in your post and it looked decent and no noticeable flicker. Is that timing progressive or interlaced? Even so in the attached picture the image is still shifted using your timing. I don't get this with 60 or 72Hz 1280x720p signals.

Interlaced.

You mean shifted vertically still?

You can add more vertical porch pixels.

But is the raster centered in the tube face? If so, your projection angle is wrong...

Yes exactly

How many would you say is safe to add? currently the image is ~4 inches off the bottom of the screen

Well the raster/pattern is centered. I light up the whole tube face/raster and align the PJ to the screen using the tube edges. So the projection angle should be pretty close based on the tube/raster.

Is it possible that as I approach the bandwidth limit the sweat spot of the deflection circuitry may not necessarily be true center of the tube/raster?

Add as many as you need, you won't hurt anything. They just cost you bandwidth.

Try 20, say on the bottom. If that doesn't work, try the top.

There is no bandwidth "limit". Bandwidth is frequency response of the video path. You add detail that is well beyond the "flat" part of the frequency response and it just gets blurred.

One question though, are you using the correct control to move the raster and image around? I'm no sony expert, but on my 1251 you used Zone 1 for coarse movements. RGB Shift was for tiny tweaks. There's CENT as well I think...I get lost, but I think RGB Shift is your issue.

Yes CENT, SIZE in the Service Mode for registration/convergence, then User Mode for RGB Size, RGB Shift for the video image touch-up.

The G70 raster setup is a little different than most other PJs. You don't directly adjust the raster you adjust the internal test patterns during the registration/convergence. Generally when the test patterns are center the video image is center. You then follow up using an external test pattern.

I don't know why but I'm finding as the frequency and pixel clock increase I have to move the internal pattern off center to get the video on center. This was the trend for anything over 1280x720p 72Hz.

Now I only have issue with one resolution 1440x960i @96Hz. The poaches are defaults from PowerStrip something like 3 and 5. And I'm getting a black band through the top of the video. Is there a procedure or method for setting the vertical porches? Is there an exact formula or trial and error?

I have no idea whether this applies, but I run OS/2 and sometimes find this problem with various LCDs at certain frequency/resolution combinations. I use SciTech Display Doctor/SciTech SNAP to tweak the video card settings (essentially, the same thing you would do with powerstrip for Windows).

The settings that apply for me are the hsync and vsync signals - my current LCDs (dual head setup) are set at h- and v+ and then use of the image shift parameters and refresh tweaks to fix what remains. For instance, my refresh rate is set at the "not quite standard" 74.9Hz (next choice being 75.5Hz) as the image appeared crisper...

Is it possible these projectors need both sync signals set a certain way? I've only seen info on one of the sync signals from what I have read here so far. How much importance is the other?

An interesting thing I have found is I seem to run into a similar issue with the Barco I have as well... (except it wraps the image around)

While yours seems to look like this...

The reason I bring it up is because the Barco seems to shift the image over on different resolutions and frequencies requiring me to shift for that resolution/freq.

similar except the black band is on top and to remove it I adjust the vertical porches.

That's what happens when I mod the porches. A different memory block loads for the different frequency and the image is no longer converged and I can't see what I'm doing. So I wanted to edit one of the PowerStrip desktop shortcuts with more top and bottom porch.

If you add more porches, you will increase the scanrate and eventually the projector will jump into a new memory block, and you'll have to reconverge.

The only way around that is if you have the firmware which allows you to copy memory blocks (just like an XG Wink )
