Well, I am using it to this day. I bought some spare boards and power supply from a friend. The hvps was the culprit.

LOL, take your time no worry's. I have a set coming from OZ but will be open after that. In terms of my package, The biggest performance gains will be the modifications to the video neck-boards followed by the HDM.

Sorry to hijack the thread a little....

What do you mean "the right stuff" -- a chemical solution? Pretty much only fluorine containing solvents would be sufficiently electronegative to swell or perhaps dissolve the stuff. Here is an article outlining a comparison of TBAF to some commercial "digesters". I know my dad used stuff at GE aircraft engines along these lines. If folks have interest in me playing with removal of potting compound, I'd be willing to do some tests. I'd just need some unwanted HVPS bits. I run a teaching lab in Chemical Engineering - a fun student project would be to figure out how to separate out the silicone after dissolution to recycle the TBAF.
Incidentally, This thread had (or I think did) photos of a dug/picked/cut/chipped apart (destructive) HVPS, but doesn't anymore...anyone know what I'm thinking of...I couldn't find another thread like it.
cheers,
Matt

I remember that Macgyver did it with a dremel. I guess he took it down?
EDIT: It wasn't this thread it was this one but it's not there either. However TSE did post the schematics

Yeah, I took those pics out when I was cleaning my dashboard one day. Didn't think they were relevant anymore. I think I still have them tho. I'll look.

Guys
Mike Parker spent six months on the hvps repair thing about five years ago, and concluded that the amount of work and need for dangerous chemicals made repairing extremely impractical.
