Good to see Barco getting into the sub-5mm LED spacing, instead of its 10 mm or more focus of the (recent) past. 2000 nits is also a clear improvement, last time I looked into it, the Mitsubishi was rated at 1500. With its then new black surface coating, contrast was good, don't remember the specced figure.
Live I still expect to see screendoor effect, eventhough not visible on the pictures shown here.

At 16 feet by 29 feet. I wonder if they have thought of using those for the commercial movie theaters and going totally away from projection.

Probably not, Adam. Googling around, I found a reference to a price of close to $25k per panel. With 200 panels necessary for the 1920x1080 display that Perisoft must be looking at, you're talking about a FIVE MILLION DOLLAR display. That price isn't really that surprising to me once you see how this thing is constructed and how it's used, but even if it's actually only half or 1/4 of that price, you could buy a whole pile of DCI projection setups.
This thing is special-purpose designed to pump out a ton of light in high ambient light, and look awesome doing it. The black surface sucks up the ambient light to give you a black velvety background, then the super-bright LEDs give you a contrast ratio that appears MUCH higher than it is in reality.
As for screendoor effect, yeah - at 25', I'm sure at 1x screen width viewing distance (29'), it might be noticeable... But, this is a huge screen for large viewing areas.
Did anybody see the power requirements? 31-67kW depending on whether you're talking about "average" or "maximum" brightness. Thirty THOUSAND watts. Wow. Oh, and 200 of them would weigh in at about 3 tons (2760kg)!!!

Check this sh*t out... This is ONE tile. You'd need a 10x20 array of these bad boys (for a total of 200) to make a big 1080p display...
Look at the carbon fiber and stainless steel! The thing looks like an F1 race car or something! Damn.

They look awesome in real life - those are exactly the same. They each have about 5 blinking status leds, so the huge wall of them looks like a borg cube. It's fantastic.
There's another one in ea's booth that I'll try to get some pics of.
Screen door is there but I think mostly gone even before 1x.
