So I'm at e3 right now, doing... Well, something. Anyway, I'm outside the square enix booth, and they have a ~35 foot led screen. I've seen them before, and they've got iffy black levels, griddy color, not great resolution, etc.

Not this one. It is, for lack of an adequate superlative, perfect. At 1.5x scree width there is no pixelation, the color uniformity is flawless, the color itself is flawless, and the blacks are unbelievable. In a room with a ton of flashing ambient lights, the thing looks like black velvet when it shows black.

The 3d effect is just staggering; it looks like a window. I have never seen anything even remotely close to this. Perfect color, perfect ansi, perfect on/off, perfect ambient exclusion. And brightness? If I assume my 808 is maybe 10ftl, this has to be at least 75. At LEAST. It is blindingly bright in high apl scenes and completely clear in low; there is zero banding or artifacting...

I'm totally f*cking gobsmacked. This is an order of magnitude over the best theater screen I've seen. Forklift drivers are stopping and gaping at the thing.

If they could shrink led pixel pitch enough to get this down to 100", everything else could pack up and go home.

Woooooow. Wow wow wow wow.

Sorry, pics not allowed of it (or rather, the stuff on it). I'm trying to find out who made it.

35' wide and 8" thick... Smile

And no, I'm not on any drugs. This thing really is -that good-.

$$$$ is right. I'm going to guess if it doesn't break into the 7-figures, it's not far off.

Probably more. One of the guys working ford's detroit auto show booth said that their display - same tech but not nearly as nice - ran about $7,000 per square foot.

Maybe we all could pool our money. Now the big question who's house is big enough to keep it at?

Probably not near the same quality as the one that you saw but you have to be impressed with the displays at the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium. Over 70 million dollars.

It took long enough, but we've finally got video (embedded after the break) of the giant 159 x 72-foot 1080p displays facing each sideline of the new home of the Dallas Cowboys, playing back some highlights of a game vs. the Colts. We've seen the specs and the mockups of Mitsubishi's huge DiamondVision screen, but suddenly things look very different when the camera pans down and one realizes exactly how large these displays are.

From what I understand, achase could probably put one in his spare bedroom... Wink

This show is a hell of a place for someone interested in display tech. There are some truly monumental projection setups going on - the EA booth alone has ten-plus 25' diagonal projection screens - IN THE BOOTH - hanging in the air, on the walls, rear projection, front projection, suspended so you can see either side, etc... they're in high ambient light and bright as hell, driven by stacked PJs, each of which is probably as big as three 909s. Im-f*cking-pressive.

But nothing beats Square Enix's screen for sheer beauty. Gotta find out who made that thing... dollars to donuts it's Barco, though.

Contrast ratio of 4,000:1? For it to be as great as it sounds, would you assume that to be ANSI CR?
