This is on a Runco dtv 980 which is the NEC 6pg xtra. I picked up the projector in February I think and I have finally got it reasonably good looking. I am running a Pioneer dvd player with 1080i upconversion via HDMI to a HDfury and then from the HDfury to the rgbhv inputs.

The one thing I have noticed now that I get horizontal lines across the screen which I believe is called banding. I do not know if it has been doing this the whole time or if it something I did. I expect it is something I did though. I zeroed all of the settings and this still occurs.

Many thanks,
-Rob

Do you see the banding on all three tubes with both source and internal patterns ?

Can you see these bands on the tubeface if the projector is turned off ??

I'd be inclined to look for burn in rather than an electronic explanation, especially if they appear when settings are nulled....

I do not see it on the internal test patterns, so it is only the source.

Also the lines in the source are slightly jittery if that helps.

The tube faces are clear when the projector is off, the green tube is the only one with a slight burn in but no horizontal lines. The projector has 2400hrs I think.

That should give you your answer then, try another source/cable. If you null your settings, and the banding still exists, and is ONLY present when your source is connected, then its your source OR the cable which is producing the banding, right ?

While I have seen scan line bunching on a *few* XG's under extreme setup conditions, its not generally been a common or easily induced condition.

I will get a shorter hdmi/dvi cable and see if it has the same effect.

Also I was wondering if I got the HDfury dc power adapter if that would help. I never really thought about this part.

Personally, I'd try another SOURCE first, like the computer you're using to post...

Alright, I plugged my 17" macbook pro into it and I still had the issue.

Tonight I took the lenses off and and expanded the raster to the whole width, I wanted to re-center the rasters on all of the tubes because I don't think I did a good enough job the first time around. I accidentally turned the pot by the v-height. I meant to adjust the v-height one but I turned the VR008 pot instead. The screen flickered and the projector shut off. I powered it back on but it now turns on then off real quickly and gives me the error codes FC and F2.

Did I just kill the projector?

Also for the brief moment that it powers up, the red led on the deflection board lights up. I assume this is all is not good.

Did you try putting the pot back where it started before you turned it back on ?? Obvious, I know, but that would be the first thing I'd try...

Yep, Ive turned that pot to every position and still have the same issue with starting up. Sometimes it just gives the FC error code instead of both and sometimes no error code.

It is the led in the middle of the deflection board to be specific now that I have noticed that there are two on there.

I purchased a deflection board and a power supply from a member on this forum. I recieved them yesterday and popped them in when I got home from work this evening. I am still getting the same issue with it starting up. The fc/f2 error codes keep coming. Do I have to clear the error codes or something?

I'm stumped now. It's hard to diagnose a dead projector via the internet.

I'd send all it's boards to Curt to check.
