Bump...

Hopefully RedMann comes through.

You should post in the Buy Sell section "Anybody have an NEC RC 6051 for sale?" as the topic. There's lots of NEC guys that may not have seen this thread. I can't imagine anybody needs more than 3 backup remotes...

Ok so a little update!

Today I got the remote and it works perfectly! Thanks Redmann! I toyed around with the settings a bit and I completely agree, it is worth getting it over the Pronto! While playing around with it I realized a few things: I need to make an adjustable table for it or look through the manual for an internal adjustment because the projector isn't exactly dead center to the screen. Basically the corners are out of alignment and focus due to a longer/shorter throw. The next obsticle is that the screen (70") is 16" too small on a guess. I haven't had a chance to run a dvd or anything on it so I'm still not 100% on that though.

You remember that cart you saw at my house? I'll be finished with it by Monday if you want to borrow it. That will help a lot.

Well I would love to but there just is no room for it on the floor. My idea is to build a simple platform with 4 screws at each corner so I can adjust the level to come out as even as possible

Alright so I made a little table for it, and BOY does it work a lot better! I was able to get it almost perfectly level with this last night and seems much more stable than before. I did play a few videos on the computer last night and everyone just broke away from what they were doing to watch it even though it was like watching a 3d movie without the 3d glasses....kinda wish I had some though just to see what it would be like LOL! What blew me away was the quality of the picture though! No pixilation like everyone says (and that is a big pet peeve of mine!). The picture is a bit dull compared to what new tubes would be capable of (tubes are about a 8?) but none the less I am excited!

Here is my new adjustable table for it:

I will post up some pictures of video hopefully tonight if I get it all adjusted! My big question right now is video imput. As it stands, I NEED a computer for the VGA input, but is there a cheap (temporary) option to run a composite yellow video imput from a PSII to the VGA?

Ya, but I completely forgot about it =P

I am headed to Fry's tonight to pick up a simple VGA to DVI adapter so I can hook up the other computer. Maybe if I see a cheap enough VGA to RCA adapter I will pick one up just to toy with as well.

There's no way (that I know of, at least not cheap) to convert yellow composite signals to VGA or RGBHV. DVI-to-VGA adapters only work on DVI-I connectors -- make sure your computer doesn't have DVI-D. DVI-D doesn't carry the analog signals so you can't easily/cheaply convert it to VGA.

Be careful about tilting your projector like that. The projector will run fine, but you will probably end up with top-to-bottom focus problems. See this post for an explanation why. Your life will be much easier if you mount the projector FLAT.

All very good points and I really wish I had a place so that I could mount it properly, but alas a bed room being shared with 3 people doesn't allow me to put it in the proper place. I am already breaking enough apartment rules by just mounting the screen =\ I do have a lot of problems with focus on the edges and especially on the corners, and I know that it is because of just that. Here is how I look at it though; it was $20 and even with the focus/alignment problems, it STILL beats the HECK out of the 19" TV I was using. Last night we watched Tokyo Gore Police which is bar none, the most gory movie I have ever seen. So awesome and disturbing in so many different ways!

Here is a picture of a bit of Robin Hood! Camera phone, sorry.

I see your point. I think the roommate's head is a bigger issue for PQ than the mounting angle. Laughing

Lol actually that is a WHOLE different issue! That is my good buddy, and couple weeks ago a water line in his house blew flooding the place overnight, so while the insurance company is tearing the WHOLE house apart, he is staying with us, which actually makes it my two brothers (one sleeps on the couch), my buddy, and myself sharring one bedroom! It has just been a few weeks of nothing but movies and video games, so nothing much has changed Mr. Green

Ya I am sold on the CRT technology though. When I eventually move out to a place of my own, I will out getting a 9" CRT and do it all right. I am just glad I have had a chance to be sold on CRTs. Plus, the beast is such an awesome conversation starter Thumbs Up Cool

Nicely done! The whole point of this hobby is to have fun and it looks like that's what you are having. Now get a game like Doom3, Fear or Left4Dead on there at 1 Am with no other lights on and see if anyone sleeps well that night. Wink

I'm glad you got it working, you'll have loads of fun with it. Thumbs Up

Obviously you've still got some learning to do about convergence, etc. but you're off to a great start.

You may be surprised at how much better things will get when you finish tweaking the convergence and focus, etc.

Those last few adjustments make more of a difference than you might imagine. Suddenly the image will just pop right out at you
as you finish up the last few adjustments. You will be amazed when you've crossed the finish line and the setup is RIGHT.

As you mentioned, the great thing about CRTS is...NO PIXELS! They are so different from any digital PJ for that reason that I really
can't compare the two. Digitals are for presentations and graphics, CRTs are for watching movies for enjoyment. That's still how
I feel after all this time, and I've seen some NICE digitals. But they just don't have the same picture character. You don't relax
and get into the movie anywhere near as much as with a properly adjusted CRT projector.

As for screen size, the bigger, the dimmer. There are things to be said...POSITIVE things...for keeping the picture smaller. As long
as the visual angle is acceptable to you, you may not actually be getting any real benefit from going bigger. Brightness is important,
and you need to have enough of it. CRTs are limited in their output capacity. Most any digital will outclass them in sheer light output
but what's more important is to have total control of room lighting. You want it to be DARK in the room for the CRT projector to do its
best work. Ambient room light determines the absolute lowest available black level. So ideally, the room should be dead dark except
only for the projector's output itself, and its stray reflections should be contained completely.

I remember when I first got my 6pg several years ago. I recall having the same excitement that you are displaying now. Once you get really good at the setup you will see what that baby is capable of. I may pick up another NEC at some point in the future. They're great projectors.

Welcome to our obsession! My first setup looked a lot like yours. Except i was using the vertical blinds covering the door to my balcony as a screen! Thumbs Down Enjoy!

P.S. if you can find a way to put that unit on the floor and make a table to put over it, like Gary says, you will get way better focus.

I tried that to begin with, but my brother said ABSOLUTELY NOT. Fortunately I am starting to make a lot more money at work which means soon I will be able to move out, and have a proper theater setup Wink

Doom 3 is still the best game for scaring the crap out of you (IMO).

Left 4 dead is a little odd because the zombies move super fast.

Looking forward to Fear 2.
