You guys are too much
Oh page 5 of the NEC 6PG XTRA PDF owners manual there is a picture of one; the one we seem to need is the 'Full Function Remote Control' (RC-6051) while the other is the 'User Remote Control' (RC-6020) used just to turn the thing on and off with basic functions from what I understand..

Awesome! Glad hooking a source up helped resolve the "scrambled mess".
Now you need to reverse the image as it was obviously used in a ceiling mount application.
While you wait for a remote, it looks like you might have a half a$$ed watchable image. You'll need to do the toe-in and lens focus after you reverse the image. You don't need the remote for those 3 things. That will get you partially familiar with some of the projector adjustments anyways. That way when you start going through a proper setup with a remote, you won't have to figure that part out because you'll have done it once already.
Reversing the image is done by reversing the Yellow/ Brown cables under the system board, which is the big board on top under the cover that is on a hinge. It's in the NECPGXTRA/9PGXTRA manual on page 12.
http://www.curtpalme.com/docs/NEC6PGXtra_9PGXtra_Install_User.pdf
Once you have that done you can enjoy it a bit until a remote becomes available.

Well I'm waiting for some remotes that John ordered to come in to see if they are the right ones. If so, I will be that much closer! Thanks for the tips on getting it flipped right-side-up. I'll do that tonight.

Just as an example of what a bargain Pronto's *can* be. I just bought one of the ones I linked to in a previous post for the opening bid amount of $20., with shipping it came to $31., which is $13. LESS than the cheapest learning remote in WalMart, and that one in WalMart is about 1/10 the capability of the Pronto I bought...just couldn't resist the bargain...

Does anyone have the ccf file for the 6pg? All that I have been able to find on RemoteCentral.com is the 9pg file. I am not sure if this will work for the 6pg. If there is anyone in the Dallas area that will let me borrow their remote for the 6pg I will learn the codes into my Pronto and make the file available.
Thanks
Dan

Dan, they are EXACTLY the same remote...
ALL PG and XG remotes will control ANY PG or XG. The only difference between ANY of the PG/XG remotes is which direct access buttons are on the remote. ALL functions in ALL projectors can be accessed using the menu systems of the projectors themselves, which is why ANY PG/XG remote will work.
The ONLY advantage of having the specific remote for a given model of PG/XG is slightly more convenience...
Sister models use the EXACT same remote, ie. all plain PG's, (models 6000/9000), whether US spec or European use the same remote, same with PG Plus (models 6100/9100), and PG Xtra(models 6200/9200).

I MAY still have my setup remote from the 6pg I had several years ago. I kept it just in case I ever ended up with another NEC. I have a Marquee now . Let me search for it. I will report back.

If you have the setup remote that would be AWESOME!
From what I have been reading about the Pronto remotes is that while they have all the buttons, trying to use the Cntrl (shifted) keys used to set it up is either a PITA or just not possible with the Pronto. Honestly, I don't mind saving the extra $50 if it simply means setup takes an extra 10 minutes because I had to use the Pronto. However, if the Pronto can not use these extra functions, than obviously I would rather wait and save for the setup remote to do it right.
Can someone please comment?

i would wait for the setup remote. don't get me wrong, prontos are cool but it's more of an icing-on-the-cake accessory than anything else and it is a little bit of a project to setup. i would save that for a time when you are taking a break from tweaking your projector and want an easy project. i bought mine 3 months ago and still have not played with ccf files or any of that jazz, too busy getting my setup going to waste precious free time on it.

I was able to locate the setup remote. Its the RC-6051. It needs a good cleaning from being store but it appears to be in really good shape. Shoot me a PM and we can work something out.

If an original remote has more than one function on a single button, generally on a Pronto you simply have two separate buttons, hence, when you want to do CNTL + R using a pronto, instead of trying to push two buttons, you simply have two versions of the button R, one that is ONLY R, and one that is CNTL+R, see ?
So in some respects, the Pronto *can* be actually simpler to operate.
The thing about the Pronto is that since it is a touchscreen, you need to LOOK at it when you use it. When one is adjusting a crt projector, one tends to need to look at the screen, not at a remote.
What *I* do is buy a cheap "hard button" learning remote and learn the main setup buttons from the Pronto to it so I can setup the projector in the dark without having to look at the Pronto screen all the time. I bought a bunch of the cheap "hard button" learning remotes that Sony makes a while back so they only cost me about $13. each, then one Pronto can be used to "make" several "hard button" remotes simply by learning the buttons from the Pronto to the Sony "hard button" remotes...
If there were a *good* hard button remote that had the capability of loading and storing as many remotes as a Pronto, I would use it, but there isn't, so I use a Pronto as a repository of all the remotes for all brands of projectors. My TSU2000 has the remote for the PG/XG, the remote for Sony's, the Barco remote, the Marquee remote, a remote for the Panasonic 1083 projector, not to mention all the assorted DVD/BD/HD DVD players I've ever owned, a half dozen HD satellite receivers, several audio receivers, etc. etc....
Pronto's have a LOT of versatility, *BUT* they are not the easiest remote to use...
By far, the EASIEST way to setup an NEC is to have the service remote connected to the projector via a stereo mini plug wire....

I don't know about a PG but an XG has so many 2 button combination keys using anything but a NEC service remote would be a nightmare.

So John, I tried the remote you bought and while some functions work, it just can not do the job right. I still need to open the projector up and adjust the lenses to get it more in focus, but thanks to Reddman, I will hopefully be closer pretty soon!
