Please no S-video -> VGA converters lol. First try it with your computer (1024x768) and if it works ok I'd get component cables for the PS2 and a trans coder to convert that to VGA.

BTW, the 6200 didn't come stock with a video/Svideo card, so chances are those inputs will be dead, even though they are on the set itself. Sometimes the original buyer added the card as an option, sometimes not. THe RGBHV will be live at all times though.

Well that's good to know lol...

Bit of bad news though. The computer I was going to use officially died last night with a fried graphics card, motherboard, and powersupply all in one shot! Seems my plans to hook it up are stunned until next week. So from what I gather, to hook it up to the computer all I should need is the simply VGA to RGBHV cable, correct? I will be ordering this tonight so hopefully it will be here by next week.

Eh... find a 12 year old with coke bottle glasses.... he can hook you up with a test machine. Trade him a Xena poster for the trouble....lol.

On a more serious note.... you lucky bum! Finding a deal like that!

TV/Projector: Marquee 9501LC / NEC 9PG+

Now being that I don't have computer access in this room yet (computer literally just died RIGHT when I got home today!), I need to download and print out the user manual. Which one of these should I be looking at to set it up?

[quI am also faced with the solution of just selling the thing. I am not running any kind of high end setup here with the limitations of a crowded apartment bedroom..... honestly, what would this thing fetch? I think I may be over my head with this one with something that is just overkill for my living situation.

Congrats on the score! I really like my NEC. I have the 6100 (PG+) Thumbs Up

This setup guide is really good. Not 100% user friendly for "Newbies" as there are a few places that assume you know where something is, but after 3 or 4 times through it, you'll have an amazing image. Keep in mind NEC's are the most difficult projector (that I've heard of) to set up. Be patient. Once you start getting it close to perfect, you'll see why we love our CRT's.

http://www.curtpalme.com/CRTSetupGuide.shtm

I hope you don't need to sell it, that would be a shame. You'll get more for a dead machine as parts. If you do part it out the lenses are somewhat coveted as they are color corrected and can be used with an adapter plate to mount to Marquees. Without knowing what boards are good and bad, they aren't worth a ton. Still the lenses alone will make it a worthwhile endeavor. If the tubes are in good shape they might also be worth something to someone. You could use the profits to buy a working projector if this one turns out to be a dud. Hopefully not.

First thing's first, get a remote. The NEC remote pops up on EBay for $20-$50 sometimes. Keep an eye out. Also you need the VGA - BNC cable. You can't do anything without a source hook to it. You might have to wait a week or 2 to get it going.

Ok so I understand everything correctly, all I need is a NEC remote and a VGA --> RGBHV cable to hook it up to a computer? Just want to make sure because I keep hearing different answers with converter boxes and so forth....

Right, you only need a RGBHV breakout cable if you're running from a PC.

So I have an update...

Yesterday, before I went to the movies, I had an hour to burn, so my friend and I went to Fry's. Now I know Best Buy didn't have the RGBHV cable from a previous attempt to go there, so I thought I might give Fry's a shot, and turns out, they did have one! The movie we ended up seeing was Up, which by the way was a fantastic movie! I didn't get back home till midnight so I didn't have a chance to try it out. Well today, I got home, and to my luck no one was home, so I hooked it up with the computer starting at a 800x600 resolution. To my dismay, it just couldn't project an image...so I waited...and waited while pressing buttons on the back of the projector. Then, randomly, it flashed the desktop without a 'scrambled mess'! So I waited...and again it flashed! So I got to thinking 'this probably means a shot circuit board...but just to be sure I hooked the computer back up to the monitor and changed the resolution to 1024x768, hooked it back up to the projector, and...

Vuala! A blurred out (due to not calibrating the projector at all), perfectly clear picture of the desktop! I couldn't believe it!!! I called my brother and friend to let them know that the $20 projector I got works perfectly fine!!!!

Not trying to be too much of a downer....but....if you get "scrambled mess" when you push buttons on the back of the projector, then it won't really matter if you have a clear image of the computer desktop because you won't be able to set it up or save the settings if you ARE getting "scrambled mess".....

However...."scrambled mess" on NEC's can exist, and at the same time there can be some resolutions which do work...there is some hope at least....

Don't get overly excited until you can see the menu from the projector clearly AND the computer desktop though...

Even if it does have "scrambled mess", that can be fixed with a system board, which, with luck, can be found for about $40.....(or maybe less if you're lucky...)

Well Just to clear things up, I know that the buttons didn't do a thing, I just pressed them just to see at first. You could be absolutely right that maybe only some resolutions work, but hey if 1024x768 works, that is perfectly fine with me. The menus do come up clearly visible, and I can see the desktop perfectly fine. The image is just slightly blurred because the tubes are not lined up or focused very well. As I mentioned before, I just kinda roughly 'eyed' it.

If you get clearly readable menu's you're likely golden, that's great news, next step is getting a service remote and reading, reading reading...

Take your time in learning how to set it up, its most of the fun...my first NEC took me two full weeks to set up, back when there wasn't a community of like minded individuals to steer me in the right direction. I'm sure you'll have yours setup and looking great in a LOT less time...

Off to the races then, start aligning. Remain completely sober, walk away from it if you get frustrated.

We'll see you in 30 manhours or 10 days, whatever comes first. Smile

Congrats man! you have a fun project ahead of you. i will second Curt's advice, for your first setup remain sober and walk away if you get frustrated. there are plenty of NEC users here, so ask questions as you go along and hit something you can't figure out. sometimes it is better to just stop, post a question and wait then to blindly screw around with a problem for hours on end.

Oh I am really excited. First thing is first though, and that is building a shelf for it to sit on in the back for it to stay in one position and then finding/building a screen for it! I'll keep everyone updated with pictures and everything. Payday is in 2 days and then the fun begins!

Now I have 2 fun projects! My 1998 BMW M3 and now my new home theater! (3 if you add in keeping my old 93' 525i running lol!)

I have an extra rollup screen you can have for free. It's almost new, but only 72" wide. Nice bright white one.
