Maybe they leaved it from newer boards.

This is what switch (S1) does in 808.

I think i may also have this pulsing issue on my 1209s.

Having taken a year to get it going after a previous problem i don't know if i can take any more!

After replacing splitter, quad and eht the pj was working well. Only thing is i haven't had time to use it much till now.

What i'm seeing is only happening with the green tube.

Going from an indoor low light scene, to a dark, outside night time scene really shows the problem.

The picture brightness pulses for a second or so before settling. Then on other scenes the low light level areas get brighter slightly, more subtle but noticeable.

Will check to see if i have the ABL switch and what affect disabling it has, but why is it happening now?

120x series don't have abl switch.

This is also probably different problem, because it's only in green. Could be faulty neck board or tube related problem.
I'd swap red and green neck boards first to see if problem follows.

Thanks Ile.

Thats why i can't find it on my vertical board.

I have a spare neck card so i'll give it a go.

Will have to wait until tomorrow now though.

Also double check to make sure it is only on green. I had pulsating brightness during changes in "brightness" levels between scenes. In my case it occurred on all three tubes of my Runco 1100 (Barco 1209s more or less). In my case it turned out to be the SMPS. It was most noticeable going from a brighter scene to a darker one and would only happen for a second or two until it stabilized. I also had a Barco with what now appears to have been an ABL problem (not my Runco) and it had random flickering there was no correlation to the on screen material.

Thanks guys Very Happy

Problem solved. Changed the neck card and straight away the picture black level was much better.

Tried the same scene from Spiderman 3 blu-ray and NO pulsing. Just a great picture!

Another close one. Thought i was going to have to spend another small fortune or get rid of the 1209s.

It survives another day, for now Wink

Feel sorry for those that haven't got their pulsing problem fixed yet though. Sad

It really is depressing trying to get things fixed. Thats why it's so important to have forums like these.

Gives us hope Thumbs Up

Sorry to raise such an old thread... but did anyone figure out what the problem affecting all three tubes was? I have the same problem, but I'd rather fix abl then disable it if there's a solution... Maybe just need to filter some noise from the abl lines?

This has been raised a couple of times lately. Has anyone checked for rail voltage drop when switching from black to white and back again? I don't see this on my 808s but I have added some cap to the 17V and the lower voltage rails on the switcher and driver boards. It could be ripple current on the op amps. But I could be wrong, just an idea.

I don't think it's related to black-white transitions, it happens even if nothing is displayed and you just crank up brightness. You can actually see the raster flickering when you look into the lenses.
