Is that the first time you've seen a Madrigal with the wood grain sides? I remember reading a few magazine reviews that specifically mentioned those - it was standard issue... It's like the "Family Truckster" of Marquees.

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder because it looks fine to me. The dark color of the wood probably reflects less light than the standard color too.
