Hi All,
I am a (once-again) happy owner of an Optoma DLP EP 757 Projector.
For the past year, the projector had been overheating and shutting down. At first, if I kept the room below ~75 degrees F, it would be fine, but it got worse over time until it would always shut down after less than an hour of use. I searched the net but could not find any solutions, so I went ahead and attached a 3" fan to the intake vent on the back. I used a radioshack 120 V cooling fan: and some 3M adhesive foam tape. I did have to rig up a switch and plug, but that was fairly easy with parts from the hardware store lighting department. And the verdict? Perfection! We had a 5 1/2 hour movie marathon and no shutdown whatsoever. The fan does make some noise (wind noise) but I find that, since it's constant and does not fluctuate, I don't notice it after a few minutes. Also, if the movie sound is at cinema levels, I definitely don't hear the fan at all. Note, RS also makes 12V and 5V fans. I went for the 120V because I had power sitting at my projector -- for my HDFury1 -- and I didn't want another bulky power adapter up there. I hope this info helps.

Best,
Sam

Quick update:
My fan fell off!
It turns out that those foam adhesive strips, that seem to bond like crazy, don't do so well in the heat.
I ended up pulling out the trusty drill and screwing the fan on to my projector. So I'm back in business and there's no way that fan is falling off now. Smile

Funny as I read your original post I was thinking "that won't last very long" Razz Not ragging on you though, the reason I knew it wouldn't work is that I tried something similar!

I'm curious to know if this is the OEM bulb that came with the PJ?

Hey, I just noticed that I never replied to that question mark.
Yes, the bulb is OEM.
and five months later, my MacGuyver rig is still working just fine.
