Sorry to shift this old topic back, but my BG808s LC modded with P16 Tubes did this plop sound last evening after watching around 3h at 1080p50Hz.
Blue and red are shifted in both directions, blue more.
Green stayed at the original position.
After Power down and up again no difference in position, can correct it via remote.
@kal:
Did it happen again? Any porblem in the years after?
Very strange...
Best regards,
Erich

of all the PJs I ever owned, NEC, Barco, etc. the only ones that did this were Ampros
it always sounded HV related to me, causing some tube shift/change
hope everything is fine with that special Zenith Kal

"the only ones that did this were Ampros".......
And only those that were in the hands of hackers and Barco owners who set them up incorrectly. AmPro's only do it when the convergence amps over heat from incorrect setup or the inlet filters are plugged up. There are thermals mounted on the board to protect it. It's designed to do it. I have said this a thousand times but get quickly fluffed off for my comments. There are to many CRT projectors (not brand spacific) here, mounted incorrectly causing to much stress on the convergence circuits. I'll argue with anyone here who wishes to call me on it. Rant off...

Chip, do you think I honestly setup CRT projectors incorrectly?

Evidently you are the only person on this forum who needs to be told who that was directed at. If you can't figure it out, I'm sure someone else will be glad to fill you in. But to answer your question directly NO, at least I hope not

I think it happened one more time about 6-12 months after this initial July 2006 incident. I cleaned off all H/V cables, reseated everything and made sure that the H/V cables were really isolated from everything else. Problem has never come back (knock on wood).

sorry for misunderstanding, I took your comment to mean all those who had this issue on a ampro are hackers

Kal | If zone convergence wasn't affected, maybe it was a physical shifting of the crt and not even electronic. The pop may have been physical movement.
Its a long shot but OTOH it wouldn't take much work to check your chassis bolts to see if they are tight.

That's exactly what I was thinking too, my Cine8 still makes cracking sounds after its been running for a few hours and I know they are caused by thermo expansions going on somewhere in the chasis. COme to think of it I do recall once where it cracked and knocked my convergence out, not much but enough to notice.
