Projector: Zenith 1200 (aka Barco Cine 8 Onix). 1000 hours on the chassis and tubes.
Was watching a movie last night and had a loud pop from the PJ after which the blue static convergence was off by about an inch or two. My guess is that there was a little discharge/short in the blue tube (?).
I re-adjusted and it seems fine and stable again. Turned it off/on and it hasn't moved.
Question: I know that sometimes you can get little pops from time to time as things discharge (especially in the first few hundred hours), but what could cause the convergence to go off and stay changed? Did something physically 'change' in the blue tube that I'm now compensating for with slightly different raster shift (master static convergence)?
Should I open her up and reseat all HV leads or something else?
Kal

Heehee, kidding!
It's possible that the blue memory glitched. If it's fine now, and you're not maxed out on the raster shift, don't worry about it.
Keeping my eyes out on more of those sets, no luck so far.

The short throw of these lenses really works out in my room with 2 rows of seats, so I want to keep this unit for a while...

Man am I in touch with this! This machine is the ultimate for if you have 2 rows. You can't really do 2 rows well with many other machines. I love it.

Hmm. Nothing maxed out... everything's at 50/50. I'll just re-adjust electronically. I noticed that red is actually slightly off too.
What I don't understand is that it's affecting all memories... 720p, 1080i, a few other odd-ball resolutions I use. They all have the exact same offset with blue off shifted up and right, and red slightly down.
Zone convergence wasn't affected at all... after I shifted the red and blue rasters back to line up with green, no zone touchups were required.
I'd suspect the H-shift board, but the vertical displacement was off too... strange.
Curt: Think it's worth opening it up and reseating everything even if it's been running just fine for a few hours since the 'pop' ?

KAL,
Curt knows best, BUT could I just add one possible option......
Check the scan coil board, LOOK VERY carfully at the Large "protection" resistors in the middle of the board, one per colour (color!)
IF for any reason it has "popped" , and it is DESIGNED to do so then what you mention might be possible, I had this happen ONCE.
Took me a week or more to work it out, it all looked fine.
Now if this has happened then why ? I dont/wont know but Curt might help you out if you ask nice..................
Worth a look, and YES I would open up to check all OK.

LOL!!! I'd donate $20 with paypal JUST to see that! It's got to be a week, though.

KAl,
I forgot that unit is 808 based.........
the scan board in 120x series is much different.
MAYBE check the board it links too.....
Those resistors shown are NOT protection versions......
(Maybe better to ignore me !!!!)

Yeah, and if you DID ban Curt for a week, we'd all laugh about it on AVS. Next best thing to a dunk tank.

My PJ did the pop thing once about a year or so ago - the red jumped over (left I think) by about 1 inch. All memories had to be raster shifted to compensate, literally the PJ went pop and the image disappeared briefly. Touch wood it has never happened again. The tubes had a max of 500h and the current theory was that it could have been a particle of phosphor interfering with the HV circuit and the controller.
This happened on a BD808s with LC tubes.

Now I think back it was more of a tick than a pop, nevermind. These are great units, mine is currently running something like 1440x1152@50Hz for PAL with a razor sharp picture (VS the Data 808s I had before w/o LC)
