I'm getting knee deep into a full setup after finally getting my new screen. I'm about to make my first foray into adjusting the astig magnets. In order to get to the green tube astig controls I need to remove the HV splitter. Is it OK to leave this dangling while I work on astig? My Marquee is ceiling mounted.

If the answer is NO, can astig be accurately set while table mounted if the final position will be ceiling? And what other settings must be done while table mounted?

Thanks!

yep let it dangle or use some masking tape to keep it out of the way. It's best to do the magnets in the PJ's final mounting Position.

The magnetics are also afected, believe it or not, by the earths magnetism, so the relation of the magnets on the PJ to the magnetic fields
of the earth do have an affect. some areas have more magnetism than others and those, small as they may be ,variances can
change the dot shape of the electron beam.

no it can't be set then flipped.
If it's s standard Electrohome or Christy Digital digital 9500 you can' set stig with the magnets anyway. It will have the 2 -pole rings for flare only. While your doing flare you need to null out convergence and set the raster center by osciallting the focus coil hosing around it's base. Doing that and flare by going back and forth until they are in agreenment (one will affect the other). I wouldn't worry about the last 1/16th inch of perfect centering because the guided help menu will fix that with a DC offset to the yokes ( no Convergence penalty /instability).
Set Stig last in the Service menu using the remote. With 2-pole magnets some degree of triangularity is inevitable.

Thanks draganm and Athanasios. Didn't realize the rings were for flare only. A few follow-up questions:

I assume raster centering involves loosening the three wing nuts on the housing just in front of the ring magnets, right? One of the wing nuts looks kind of hard to get to. Is there more dissassembly I should be doing to get to it?

As for the ring magnets, there's one ring with the knob that turns, and there's another ring with no knob. Will I be turning the knob-less ring as well?

Lastly, my green tube has a bit of wear that is noticeable on screen and not centered on the raster (though it's not too bad, really). I've been trying to decide how best to deal with this. Unfortunately my projected image will be slightly bigger than the wear area (I have very limited flexibility in pj placement). I figure I could either:
1. Adjust the focus coil to center the raster around the burn area, or
2. Adjust the focus coil to center the raster on the tube face, then use the electronic controls in the "Guided Mechanical Setup" to shift the raster over the burn area.
3. Adjust the focus coil to center the raster on the tube face, and live with the unsightly wear. I'd prefer to avoid this if possible.
Between #1 and #2, which lends itself to a better configured projector? Neither will completely hide the wear - the goal is just to minimize (average out) the impact.

Thanks.

FWIW mine's been dangling for about 15 months now. Laughing One of these days I really need to put the silly thing back together.........

I always thought that was a pretty weird feeling being elbow deep in the guts of my Marquee with that HV splitter tickling the hairs on my forearm. I had the fully asortment of mag rings on my old beastie, so I spent a lot of time in there trying to tweak things.

it's a dummy ring, doesn't do anything

this will give the best focus, both electronic and mechanical. If you want ot move the raster do it with the coiul. Also, keep in mind the coil is sually slopped over with hot glue. This all needs to be cleaned off before it will move around smoothly.

When I got my raster near perfect center, it showed off the wear way too much. *sigh* So I've resorted to moving my raster off-center by adjusting the coils. However, I'm only able to move them so much so it looks like I'll have to compensate electronically as well.

Anyone have a green tube I can buy? Smile

If you can do some cutting of traces and soldering you can modify one of the VNB's and use one of the Thomas tubes I have., Bran New!!!
