I'm about ready to throw this thing against the wall. I have two of them. I've always had the one with component-out down in the basement on the pj and the HDMI-out box upstairs. When I got my Moome box and switcher I went to switch them out and put the HDMI box downstairs for the PJ. I never noticed this about the HDMI box, but it's constantly switching every channel to a different resolution which really cheeses off the projector and the Moome box. The box with component outputs had a service menu where I could set it at 1080i and leave it. I cannot find such a menu or setting on the HDMI box. There is a button on the front for "format" which will allow you to manually change it but it won't stay set. Every time you change the channel it changes the resolution, which in turn peeves off the Moome box and makes the projector have to readjust to the signal.

The people at the cable company are clueless about whether or not they have any HDMI boxes that don't do this. Can anyone suggest a cable box with HDMI out that will let you set the output resolution and lock it down?

TV/Projector: Marquee 9501LC / NEC 9PG+

This wouldn't be the Shaw box would it?

I have the PVR and I made sure I only used the projector for the High Def playback. Using it as a normal input on the projector was an excersise in frustration. Like you say, going high def to standard and then every channel in the high def spectrum messed terribly with the projector. I didn't feel like making an input for every single variant of TV signal. I didn't play with it very long though. Right now, I have only the PS3 hooked to the projector. The cable box messes with my plasma too. Can't give up the PVR though... Stupid Bell satellite pricks that refused to install a satellite to make the condo board happy... Evil or Very Mad

The two DirecTV HD21 HD DVR's would do this as well until I learned how to go into their setup menu and configure a unified output from the STB. I simply unchecked the undesired resolutions and 'use native' resolutions/formats. While I a not touting D* or its wares, I have never been too impressed with how hardware is introduced upon cable customers.

So it's an HDMI out box and you can lock it onto 1081i and it won't change? Cox is my cable provider. Is this a box you bought yourself and use a card in or is it a rental from Cox?

http://www.cisco.com/web/consumer/support/userguides2/4004007.pdf

Looking @ the last page of the guide seems to say that you can lock 1080i as your output for all channels.

If you get the SA8300 and want more recording space you can add a drive very easily:

Customer Inquiry: I need to find out if you have this model HD DVR available at my local office SA 8300HD dvr. I currently rent to HD DVR boxes. One with component out and one with HDMI out. I need to upgrade the component out box for another HDMI, but I have issue with the HDMI box I currently rent from Cox (Model DCH3416 ) which I've found no way to lock down on 1080i output. The DCH3416 is constantly changes output resolutions when you change the channel from 480i, to 480p, to 720p and 1080i. This really peeves off my projector which has to relock the signal. I understand that Cox does carry the SA 8300HD and that box can be locked on 1080i output. Please advise.
Over Thirteen: Yes
