The experts on this forum started exactly where you are right now, they just stuck with overcoming all the obstacles until they were very proficient. Imagine how difficult it would be to learn all of this on your own without the iformation or guides on Curt site ! The guys who documented all of this were really faced with a learning opportunity. i am very thankful to them.
Raster centering on Ampros cannot be done by adjusting the focus coils as there is no play to speak of. I do not have an Electrohome, but I would like this extra dimension to adjust the projector. I have learned that very small changes in the
CPC magnet adjustments can make huge differences in PJ performance. |
Yep that what I thought . I am learning and I am very thankful to everyone here.
Without this site I would not have been able to get this far.
Thanks again

Robert is right keep at it. It is a pain to get your hands to those Wing nuts and move the coil to get the Grid centered and then lock it down, then do the CPC flair/centering ring to only move what you just did with the focus coils. You have to go back and forth with that till you get it so the movement of the CPC wil not drastically move the grid from where the focus coil adjustment did. After you get that perfected for all three tubes ramping the focus with all three tube lit up and a grid showing should not let the three grids move apart from each other too much. Once this is done correctly you will have less drift of convergence.

Can any damage be done while moving the focus coils? This was on my mind constantly as I was fiddling with it the first time. Wasn't sure how gingerly I should be twisting and turning the thing.

I think I got this right I have a good picture. Well as good as it ever was, maybe the best so far. Still not perfect but damn close.
I will post pictures later this week.

I think I got it really close by eye it is so bright now I have the contrast at 45 and brite at 46. G-2's are all in the high 60's across the board but, WOW, the picture is finally better than the Mitsubishi.

I guarantee that you are as happy right now with your projector as you will ever be-- stay away from any more image improvements
Now you are hooked. Please watch movies during the summer before you read Kal's guide on calibration! From then on, you will spend more time with your hands on the CPC magnets and doing your greyscale-color calibration than watching movies. Believe me, that stuff is addictive once you do your first calibration.

I will do just that. Watch movies. What a novel idea, watch movies not test patterns.
I won't be doing ANYTHING for a while. I will ceiling mount it in a few weeks, maybe months, which I think means doing the set up all over again? I am in no hurry to do that again. It took a month to do this time.
However I finally see what all of the fuss has been about.
CRT yeah

Yes, watch some freakin movies. Did anybody here know that CRT's are for more than tweaking? Seriously? I LOVE watching movies and playing Lego Star Wars (so fun!). You can really tell when someone finds the "sweet spot" on their projectors image, because they basically disappear from the forum for a while, then come up for air and to post a few times in the screenshot thread.
A month to set up "P-shaw!" took me a freakin year with the NEC. I'm scared to touch the Marquee again, but I know I will. It's a sickness, you know, once you tweak, you think "I've got it at about 85%... then you tweak. Then another month goes by and you are like "I'd really like to get ___ a little better"... then it's at 87%... then 2 months go by and...
Eventually you'll hit 95-99% of what the projector can do and then you'll keep at it trying this or that. You'll likely never stop until you've got it as close to perfect as you get it... then a new receiver, new speakers, bigger screen, stack/ blend. Mwa-Ha-ha-ha-ha!!!
You have CRT-itus. May you never recover.

Current Projector Marquee9501LC with PS3 (BLu-Ray) at 1080P LOVE IT! Screen is an Elunevision 120" 4:3 (2.4 gain - no hotspots). (also own a NEC 9PG+)

No way am I gonna Call my set up right. It is oddly enough about 88% though. The corner focus is terrible but I just don't want to tweak anymore for now.
When I decided to ceiling mount it I will tweak it then not before.
Really,
I mean it.
No way I ain't gonna.
Doaaaah probably
Audio wise I don't think so at all. I am really happy with that side of the equation.
