I wonder if the bluray release will look much better than the HDTV captures out there. I sure hope so!

And the books are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than the movies.
I can buy "I have no interest in Tolkien", or "Tolkien did nothing for me"; but overrated, no way. His impact has just been way to big to say he was overrated

I've got the SD extended editions, and while it's good to have the whole movie... DAMN those things are long!! When I got the set, I had some friends over for a LOTR:EE marathon (3 separate days). That's a lotta movie...

I watch them over two nights.
I don't care, I want the whole nine yards, with 7.1 DTS-MA sound, and the best picture they can give.
Dark Crystal is coming out soon too

If you watch the extended version it's much more palletable too, like six 2-hour movies.

You are missing out on some fantastic reference material. Extended editions are a must. New Zealand is a very beautiful place.
Besides, how could you not love the battle scenes?

Ungh! that's a long time to wait, but it will be worth it. I don't think I could stant to watch the theatrical version ever again. Chopped out too much.

I'm going to announce the Blu-ray release of every movie, but I'm safe in making such an announcement since I am not obligated to provide a date. But I am thinking of a date in the 33rd century.

What's interesting is that Jackson doesn't consider the extended versions the "definitive" or "director's cut" versions. He actually prefers the theatrical versions.

The really amazing thing is that the movies are so good despite Peter Jackson. Everything he personally changed in the movies was for the worse.
I'm so glad deltoro is making the the Hobbit.

I want to retract one thing I said about the changes to the movie from the book. Not all the changes were bad by any means, and there were some things that were changed and were a big improvement to the story line over how the book was written. Tolkien was brilliant but he wasn't perfect and he re-wrote hiw own books many times. I can't say which changes were JAckson and which were Fran Walsh but I have a feeling she is responsible for the good ones. Not sure why but listening to her interview in the extended edition's she just comes across as highly intelligent and insightful.
For instance, Elves arrive at Helm's deep to help the humans. This is absolute rubbish and was NOT needed, it's got Jackson wirtten all over it. However there is a very powerful scene in the second movie (extended edition) that deals with Theoden King of Rohan, and his grieving for his son Theodred. In the book this is hardly mentioned, but in the movie there are very emotional scenes with Theodred's death at the Ford's of Isen and Theoden's grieving at his funeral at Meduseld. I have a Feeling Fran pushed for this part.
now that I'm more familiar with the movies, I'll have to go back and watch the making of portions again.
