Hi everybody,

I have been following you for some time and - eventually - about one month ago I bought a HDFury2 V3 and I am very proud of it. Very Happy

I can now use at its best the panel of my SONY KE50MR1 that I bought in 2003. Thumbs Up

I can enjoy at the highest resolution allowed by the monitor 1080i both the films in Blu-Ray through the PS3 and the HD channels of Sky-Italia.

Now, let me tell you about my problem. Sad

I assembled a HTPC using a motherboard ASUS P5N7A-VM.

This one has got an exit VGA and HDMI with a chipset Nvidia geforce 9300 on board. I connected this exit VGA to the PC entry (VGA) of my TV and I connected the exit HDMI of the ASUS to the HDFURY and then to the entry component of the TV.

ASUS (VGA) --> (IN PC) SONY TV (Monitor 1)

ASUS (HDMI) --> HDFURY2 --> (IN COMPONENT) SONY TV (Monitor 2)

The control panel of the Nvidia recognises the model of my TV through VGA as first monitor and “HDFURY” as second monitor. This latter with original resolution 1920x1080.

I tried to assign different resolutions and frequences to the Hdmi output but I can not see anything on my TV.

The monitor does not receive any signal.

If I look at the led of the Fury, I see that it is blinking with a frequence of about 3 seconds.

The Fury is connected through a wire HDMI 1.5 meter long, that works properly with other video sources, and through the connector included in the package with the entry component.

I wanted to ask if someone of you has already had experiences with the board Asus and HDFury2, if he/she has experienced the same problems and how has solved them. I have not yet tried to power the Fury because I do not have the proper wire and because it works fine with the PS3 and with Sky without powering HDFury.

Before trying this solution I wanted to ask for your suggestions / advices

Thanks in advance and best regards

Cesare

HI Casare, you need a power supply. I have found it is necessary most of the time.

Just for our information what model Sky box do you have? I'll add it to the list of things that don't need the power supply.

You can buy one from the site here: http://www.curtpalme.com/HDFury2.shtm Scroll down to 1 extra item and select the correct power supply.

Or you can try and find on locally.

The PS3, Xbox 360HDMI, Samsung DTB-H260F ATSC tuner, Sky ????? model satelite tuner Very Happy

Hi AnalogRocks,

thanks for your suggestion.

I will try to buy the power switch for the HDFURY and will let you know about the results.

Regarding your question, the model of the satellite receiver for SKY is a PACE mod. DS820NS

Thanks and best regards

I believe you are running into an HDCP issue which is unrelated to the use of the HDFury2, whether it has a power supply or not...

Rather than spend more money, do some more research first.

Only connect ONE option at a time to your tv and see if it works.

I would bet you can ONLY have EITHER VGA or HDMI, but not BOTH at the same time...

I'm fairly sure this limitation is built into any computer video device which has an HDMI output, and I'm also fairly sure this has been mentioned a few times in the large "official" thread for this mobo over at Avsforum, here is a link to that thread:http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1079923&highlight=official+asus

Hi Elaine

thanks for your comments.

I have already read the post you indicated to me.
I have already tried to set the 2 monitors with the same resolution through the control panel as
suggested in other forums and also
I have tried to disconnect the VGA and only use the Output HDMI but I always have the same result. In this latter
case I had also to format all again because I could not any more
re-activate the VGA and manage Windows.

Unfortunately I can not use a TV/monitor HDCP compliant and hence I can not
see if the HDMI of the ASUS works properly.

The solution that looked to be the less expensive (Eur 6.5) was to buy the
supply cable for the Fury.

Another solution, if the previous one fails, would be to add a video card
HDCP compliant on my HTPC but before doing it I would like to find someone
who allows me to test the PC on his TV HD.

Thanks and regards

Cesare

Hmm.

Well, the theory behind the HDFury is its supposed to be seen as an HDCP compliant monitor by whatever is hooked up to it, which is why I would assume you are having an HDCP issue instead of some other issue...

I have the same mobo, it has worked great for me(I know that information isn't helpful, but just to let you know I do have some experience with the exact mobo).

When I loaded the OS, I had it connected ONLY via VGA, and it worked fine, I connected it ONLY via HDMI to my Sony SXRD tv, and it worked fine, in fact, it works fine through an HDMI switcher too...

However, I built a computer for a friend using the new Zotac mini-ITX board with the onboard Nvidia 9300 and native HDMI out and it would ONLY show on HDMI when DIRECTLY connected to the tv. If I tried to connect through the HDMI switcher, black screen.

Which is why I surmise that your issue is HDCP related instead of some malfunction of the HDFury.

In my (limited) experience with HDCP devices, I've noticed that the order you power things on, and even the power state of the devices when you connect the cable can affect the HDCP connection...my HD-A1 is REALLY picky about when you power on what device and even when you connect the cable or it won't show anything over HDMI, but other devices aren't picky at all, plug them in and they work... I haven't been able to detect any rhyme or reason to it all...

If I were you, I'd try every variation of connection sequence and powering sequence using ONLY the HDMI connection before I went and bought more stuff...

Also, with my ASUS mobo, initially it didn't show the POST screen when connected to the tv, but now it does...

Hi everybody,

AnalogRocks,
unfortunately my trial to feed the Fury did not produce any result.

Elaine,
actually I think it is a problem of compatibility HDCP. I will try to check better and look at the tread that you indicated.

Jask,
I will also try your solution. Thanks

Luckily a friend of mine will lend me his monitor 20" that is HDCP compatible. It has got an entry DVI, but I have got a cable (HDMI/DVI) at home. So I can check if the HDMI of the card works properly even if I have some doubts.

I will keep you posted

Regards
Cesare
