DIY HD145 Lense Adapters

I'm thinking about trying to build a set of these adapters for my BG1208. I have a set of HD145's in perfect condition:

I would like to cut the mounting tabs off the lenses and epoxy them to the adapter plate. My question is, how far does the lense need to be from the tube face?
