ACON is neat to watch. Very Happy I did a quick setup and watched part of a dvd just to make sure the set survived the trip okay. This is an obviously good upgrade over the toasted 1272 even without the careful setup I'll be doing later. However, I'm seeing a couple of issues and would appreciate any feedback...

Comments on the following two pics would be much appreciated. I'm assuming the blue line is a scorch? New tube time?

What's the junk in the lens chamber? Is that something I can remove without messing with glycol?

Overall, I'm less than pleased with the packing on this one, it was sent on it's back and was not strapped down so it got to rattle around inside the crate. The ACON camera was bent on it's shaft and I had to straighten that out. I have to pull the set apart and clean it anyway, as the previous owner was a smoker and there's a lot of dust inside. But I'm not going to complain, it was cheap and I finally get to see what all the Marquee fuss is about.

I have not checked the power supply voltage yet, I will do that during the cleaning.

Thanks,
Dan

Just strap it down to a skid and ship it over to me. I'll test it fully for a few hundred hours and give you a full written report. Wink

you'll have to remove the bellow to clean the gunk out. Almost impossible to suck it out through the fill holes.

The blue line is probably banding, you'll have to show a screen shot to tell better.

To clean this baby you'll need plenty of Denatured alcohol, and go to radio shack and get some DeOxit cleaner and protectant for all the removable chips
and all the connectors. Clean all boards with a tooth brush and the alcohol, let dry over night and then clean contacts with Deoxit and then the protectant.
Youl will also need a chip puller for the removable chips.

To remove the bellows follow my procedure linked in my Sig. Also
lots of other good info in the maintenance thread. If you'll need new bellows the one's i am getting made should be done soon.
But i'd clean her all up first. keep the tubes as they are till you check everything else out first, this way you'll have tubes in glycol to
test the set with.

Here is a reposting of a thread from AVS:

Probably a good cleaning and reseating of all the boards is what's needed.

Here is a link to parts and boards of the Marquee. Reseating of the Focus board and HDM is just pulling it out and putting in in a few times to clean the contacts, you dont have to remove any connections to do this. Just pull up and put back in a few times. http://www.curtpalme.com/ElectrohomeMarquee_Layout1.shtm

Location of FCM and HDM.

on the hdm their is a daughter board that also need to be removed and reconected.

HDM Pic

Next on the CLM there are some chips that can be taken out from their
sockets, do one at a time. you will need a IC puller from radio shack to do this.

Location of CLM:

CLM out of Set showing chips.

chip puller pic:

Clean all chips with some contact cleaner or Denatured Alcohol.

I use DeOxit:

Do one chip at a time and remember how it came out so you put it back in the same way.

You pulled all of the chips. That seems like overkill to me. I just used a mixture of RO/DI water and alcohol to clean the boards with a the same water as a rinse.

Blorton,
I have some HD-18 lenses. I am not sure if they fit, though. Maybe someone here knows.

HD-18 's will NOT fit on a Marquee. All LC Marquee's use HD-10 type lenses. Smile

typical old Marquee LC gunk,Almost every old LC Marquee has them. I would replace all 3 bellows and any tubes as needed. Also, depending on hours various board work for reliability. P14 first though, don't take chances on that one. Looks like you got a project on your hands but a working machine is a good starting point.
I never could understand why people build crates and then just drop the PJ in there to bang around? Wedging some foam around the sides takes about 10 minutes. Confused

Right. They fit all the XG LC's and G70's, possibly others but those are the only machines I know of that use these lenses. Smile

I thought you were going to buy it. If you didn't get it, then I may have to see where I am at the end of the week.

Heck it only costs at the most 2$ for bolt to bolt it to the pallet. They went as far as building it why not make sure its safe.

Oh wait, its not theirs anymore why bother!!

bolting it down is ebtter than loose but I don't bolt becuse drop shocks o the pallet will go right into the PJ. I remember this snapped off a fragile P16 neck on a G70 curt shipped. We get a lot of very fragile instruments at work, they are sitting or screwed down to a foam pad that's glued to a board. IT's a suspension system but you need the machine isolated from all 6 sides, not just top and bottom. As you pointed out though, an E-bay seller's motivation ends once the pay-pal hits his account.

I think the projector sitting on a good foam base and shrink wrapped to the pallet is optimum. Bolting it to the base would transfer every vibration right through the projector . The sharp drops are one thing But even the vibration of driving can cause damage, loose boards, etc.
