Can the dvd output res be selected automatically by the player if it is set in to 480i in the video out menu? Or wil this also downscale BD?
Otherwise, need to manually switch to 480i everytime I play a regular dvd so that the scaler can do the scaling from 480i to 1080p?

The Sony 550 does not have source direct for video.

You must switch between 480i (for DVD) and 1080p24 (or 1080i60) for Blu Ray but the 550 is fairly quick and the menu comes on at start up so it not so bad.

Some other Blu Ray players can not even do 480i via hdmi.
