|
|
A few years back, I got hold of some GT17 lenses, with a lot of dust on their lenses - both outside and inside, which I substituted with the stock lenses on my 9500LC after cleaning them outside.
Well, while I am not sure that there will be any noticable difference, should they have been clean, but I find that I don't enjoy seeing all that dust on the inside while looking at the projector when it is running...
So, the other day, after I installed my new Moome hdmi 1.3 card into the set, I was thinking about a serious cleaning of the lenses by taking them apart.
But maybe this needs special tools, of some sort. If not, is there something to stop me from having a go at it?
Someone done this op? (I'm sure some of you must have done this! )
Cheers,
Micael

I have opened those lenses (plain hd-10īs) Front and rear lenses are quite easy, there is big ring around lense that has threadīs on it. there is place for tools so you can turn that ring and open lense. Those ringīs are usually quite tight so i heated outer barrel little with hairdryer and sprayed coolspray to that ring part. Then with big flathead srewdriver and small hammer i started to tap those open...It would be easy if someone helps to hold that barrel while tapping that ring open, also if someone taps opposite side of ring same time. First half turn is hardest part after then its easy.. But if dust is between front lenses then try open those "guide screws" that are on those grooves that move lensebarrel. those are usually locked with "locktite" so little heat helps to open those. After that itīs easy to pull front barrel out.
Hammer & screwdriver & hd-lenses-> be carefull
Edit: Joust had special tool for removing those "guide screws" ->

While I suppose there is some chance of dust getting in between the front and back half of the lens assembly, there should be no reason to seporate the front or rear lens packs. I have completely dissassembled lenses before and trust me when I say "you don't want to do it". If I were you, I would go no further than removing the front barrel from the rear and only clean that area. Unless you have a "clean room" you will probably do more harm then good.

OK, thanks Guys! I guess I will mostly do the basic stuff to my GT17's, but I'll inspect the lenses more thourogh to see where that dust/durt/smoke is is actually located, and concentrate on that particular area.
I have my old HD10L to practice on..
Is there any exploded views on HD10 floating around?

Remember when you take it apart to indicate which side the lens element is suposed to be facing.

You can find a better price but you get what you pay for...

One slip with the wrench and possibly a nasty scratch on the element.
Second thought don't even go there !
Way to easy to screw up !

But after taking the bottom lens off on the HD10GT 17 there is no way you can do it with that and hand strength alone. maybe start with a hammer and driver then move to the spanner wrench.

I bought one myself. Nice span wrench
