For $2500, it seemed like a good move for me. If I already had a mint 9" CRT, installed and properly set up, I would not do it. But for someone who is looking to move from a smaller and/or older CRT, it seems like a very reasonable choice. I figure in 4 years I'll want something else anyway (LED, bigger screen capability, even better performance). I don't expect to go more than 2000 hrs in those 4 years, but if I did, I bet I can get a bulb for ~$300. I don't know where I could get 3-4 year warranty on a 9" CRT. A digital may seem like a big gamble to some, especially with the FPJ1 and Pioneer exiting this business, but it seems like CRTs are a gamble well. Between the not-available bellows on the Marquees and the non-replaceable chip fiasco on the G90s, what does that leave, Barcos? And at $9000 for new-ish one? I'd rather take my chances on a brand new in box FPJ1 for $6500 less.

I believe the best way to get people into CRTs is for them to have a digital first. So if you want go and get one. If people buy a digital and don't go to CRT then that leaves more for those that appreciate CRTs. Seems like a win win to me.

BTW, the thread continues over at avs. Now the seller of the set is saying that if I fill the green tube with glycol, I'll think it's fine.
Could a couple of you go over and tell this goof that the green tube is completely unusable, full glycol or not?

Have tossed in my 2 cents and would say the arguments presented are fairly undisputable.
What claim did you file at Paypal, Curt? You should go with the 'You received an item that was significantly different than described.' and provide the sellers description of the tubes/condition, the picture of the tubes and a link to the tube rating chart. That should be enough really for Paypal to decide in your favour, regardless of whether they have any employees there who know anything about CRT. The facts speak for themselves, tbh.

I posted with my take. The guy made a mistake and misrepresented the condition of the green tube (even if unintentionally) and now won't fess up to it.

The G90 uses some unobtonium chips on the YA cpu board. These chips have been failing and with no way to get replacements this has been "bricking" some very expensive machines

Athan, your post over there was priceless! Thanks to the others that posted as well.
Guys, lesson learned again with Paypal. PAYPAL WILL ALWAYS SIDE WITH THE SELLER REGARDING MERCHANDISE SIGNIFICANTLY NOT AS RECEIVED IF NOT BOUGHT THROUGH EBAY. This is the same issue I had with the scammer in Boston. Paypal's reasoning for this (and I actually understand this from their point of view) is that eBay auctions cannot be changed once they are posted. Emails, Craigslist ads, etc can all be changed, on eBay you can only add comments after you post the main auction. Thus, the integrity is intact on an eBay auction, and the condition of the item selling is completely clear.
With CL and emails, you can edit or cut and paste, and Paypal has no idea who is right.
What I did last night is put in a partial claim of $500 of the $600 payment I made to Gary. This morning Paypal rejected it due to what I described above. Since I did not receive the box with the remote and ceiling bracket, I was able to file a 'not received' claim for the other $400 of the $1000 that I paid Gary in total. Even in his response this afternoon to Paypal, Gary admits that I did not receive the box with the parts in it, so I think Paypal will indeed find for me this time.
Gary has now buried himself over on avs, so if Paypal questions anything, I'll direct them here and to that thread.

I think that there's quite a few people who think what they own is gold because they own it. This guy is no different than the seller on videogon. I would chime in over at that other site but everybody said it better than I would have.
Curt I hope that this doesn't happen again but with as much business you do this is bound to happen occasionally.

That is interesting on the auctions. The whole Ebay thing versus non-ebay is interesting as it is absolutely the reverse on for Ebay auctions (I have never heard of a buyer losing unless the description was air tight). On receiving the item, at least if it was an Ebay auction he would have to prove delivery via third party website and for an item worth north of $249.99 signature confirmation. Finally if you paid by credit card do a charge back. If not this is why you always pay via credit card with PayPal.

Yep, that's what I'm doing from now on for large transactions like this one and that Boston one.
