I'm looking at buying a new DVD player for my 1272 sony. Never used on before with a projector. What is the best way to hook one up to the projector? I'm thinking of a blue ray unit. Thank You

Dude what the heck were you using VHS?  Man you are in for a treat with blu-ray. Here is a link to a semi used HD Fury for $100.

The Fury is probably the best way to go with a 1272, set your blu-ray player to 1080i set it up and enjoy.

I had a JVC dvd recorder on my regular tv, but it died early on. Haven't been using anything. I'm thinking of just buying a player right now.
Do I have to use that Fury connector? Cost more than the players I've seen.

You might be able to find a used component to RGB transcoder but it probably won't be much less. Then you won't be able to upscale DVD's to 1080i, they would be stuck at 480p.

If you want to upscale your DVD's past 480P ( which I would recommend ) then yes you'll need the HDFury with the power supply.
The one for sale in the Buy and Sell forum doens't have the BNC RGBHV cable. You may be able to get away with using a 6 foot VGA to RGBHV cable and a gender changer but your picture may suffer a little.
You would be better off with the HDFury1 advanced kit with the green edition RGBHV cable and power supply.
Your hook up would be as follows: DVD----HDMI.to.DVI.cable----HDFury1===RGBHV.BNC.cable==Sony projector.
This will get you 1080i

If you don't go for the HDFury then your DVD's will only be 480P and you'll still need a Component to RGBHV transcoder and a cable to get the video to the projector.

Or if you want to save a little money you could go for the Box1040 Lite. You can buy it here for $149, http://www.curtpalme.com/Box1040.shtm
You would hook the transcoder up as follows:
DVD===component.cables====Thanscoder===VGA.to.RGBHV.cable====Sony Projector.
This will get you 480P

I see some HD Fury's on Amazon.com that are cheaper than converters. Thanks guys, I'll give one a try.

In most cases you will need the power supply, make sure you get one with the package you buy.

I just looked at the one on Amazon. No where does it say you get a power supply.
You will need it too. Also doesn't include the HDMI to DVI cable. So figure power supply from Radio Shack $36, HDMI to DVI cable $12 ( for a decent one ) + the $120.13 for the HDFury
