I am finally getting a chance to play with my NEC XG-75, and after a quick adjustment of various settings (including convergence), it looks alright. It can't reproduce a 1-on-1-off pixel pattern, but it still looks ok. So, at this point I think I am done for now, and I make sure I store the settings, then pop out the DVE blu-ray disk, which, on the PS3, causes the XG to re-sync for a moment. As soon as the XG syncs back up the the PS3 system menu (on exact same input on the XG), I can tell the convergence is off. I go ahead an pop in a different blu-ray, and sure enough, the convergence is still off. All of the other settings (like focus, raster size, etc) seem to be fine, so I am pretty sure the settings got stored correctly. It's just the convergence that's off a little bit, but enough to make the picture terrible. So, I go through the whole convergence process again, store the settings, then watch for a few minutes, then decide to switch to a different source (but same input on the XG -using a HDMI switcher). Once again, convergence is off, still using the exact same input on the XG. This is getting to be a real PITA! I try the PS3 again, and it's off, too.

Is there something to remedy this? It seems like when the XG has to re-sync the signal, that causes the convergence to drift a bit. It does not seem to drift during viewing, only when it needs to re-sync (to what ends up being the same signal on same input). I am not making massive adjustments with the convergence controls, alignment happens with the other controls, then just fine tuning with the convergence controls.

Thanks.

Are you SURE you are feeding the XG the same signal each time? A different SOURCE is a different input. It doesn't matter if they all enter via HDMI, they have different timings.

Every different signal timing will need a new setup (you can copy if they are close in scanrate).

I don't think you understand the memory structure yet..

And did you wait for it to warm up before converging?

I am 100% sure it's the same input. Even when not switching the HDMI switcher, and just ejecting the PS3 blu-ray and inserting another blu-ray causes this problem. And I have always checked to see that when the XG does re-sync, it still shows the same input name. Yes, warmed up for at least 30 minutes.

this happened to me about 3 or 4 times over a 2.5 year period with my 1352LC, like the PJ got stuck in between between a block or something, unplug the sources with the unit on, turn it off, turn it back on and connect sources

should do it messing around with things like this a few times

Thanks for that tip Gary. I sort of remedied my problem. I have a new Pioneer FPJ1 (RS2 clone) arriving in a few days. Even without this current issue, it has become clear to me that I need to reduce my setup & maintenance time for my projector, hence the digital. I have too many other projects and distractions going on to take up the CRT hobby.
