Good score!
| Curt Palme wrote: | | It's a combination of my website, past customers upgrading/switching to digital (boo!), and corporations dumping large volumes of sets on me. I put out very few feelers, but a couple of scores on ebay in the last couple of months helped. |
He's not buying most of them from auction sites or anywhere where they're advertised. People are instead coming to him. A lot of corporations / stores are dumping sets and when they google or search around, Curt's site comes up so they email him directly that they have stock they want to sell. Any ethusiast selling too will google his brand/model to see what's up and how much it's worth and the first thing they come across is Curt's site... so naturally they email Curt to see if he's interested.
So most of these are not even accessible to the 'average' person nor would these companies/corporations want to deal with one person wanting to buy their items. Curt's set up with shippers around the world and know exactly what works.
What do you don't know is that he gets many more requests from people wanting to sell him ECP's and other 7" units... which of course he isn't buying any more no matter what shape they're in.

| Curt Palme wrote: | I completely agree... but.. I think these sets were set that Runco used for parts. One is missing two boards, the other is missing 4. While I can get the parts for them (and probably will to have them complete, the sad thing (for parting out the sets) is that I can get a service contract to maintain about 100 of these projectors, which in long run will net me more than selling one set. Besides, I've got 4 909s out there that I've sold at this point, and right now I've got no backup parts, and I've always maintained that I won't sell sets that I can't support.
So I'll power the sets up, keep the highest hour one as my test chassis and sell the other one. Pricing will be high, but a lot lower than what they sold for new. Of course it will depend on tube and chassis hour count. WHo knows, maybe the tubes are worn, and these were 24/7 test sets at Runco with 50K hours on them. (I doubt it!)
I've got about 6 people that want sets, I'll contact them first to see if there's still interest, and if not, I'll post it here, then on the mailing list, then on fleabay. |
So how long before you eventually buy those 100 Cine9s after they decide they dont want them anymore?

OK, I was slightly off, the third DTV 1200 is actually a 909. Jan 2006 build (!). Mega scratched up case, one mark on one lens (minor, but someone will bitch about it), mounting brackets missing, it came from an auction somewhere in SLC.
Next up to buy are some 909 split packs. I'm done buying until I sell some sets now. It's insanity! Pix to follow, a high end CRT round circle in the living room methinks.

If youre refering to the Cine9s mate, in a few years, ill likely take a couple off ya, i reckon they will look real good shooting at the wall when our new house is built here, the wall will be about 4 yards wide by about 2.4 yards high ( center speaker will be in that same wall, fronts will be on an angle at the outer edges. )

Well, the Jan 2006 BArco 909 needs a whooole lot of work.. or maybe not. Seems that it was a parts donor for a bunch of other sets. It was missing two sub boards out of the SMPS' and one CRT card. One other board is labeled 'bad' (AC input board), so while I have the standby light coming on right now, that's it. NO response from the unit at all.
the only saving grace right now is that if I put the 'force SMPS on' jumper in place, the set is still dead, so I think the system board is OK, and the problem is power supply related.

No, this is the fun learning part. I need to take the Cine 9 manual out for printing, this scanning multiple pages on a computer and printing out on an 8X 11 piece of paper stinks. I'm checking the set board by board, but with three power supplies in this set, all triggered off each other, it's complicated. I love the challenge!
