I decided to check the G-2 Voltage as discussed in the setup information and found what appeared to be surprisingly low readings. While the pictures appear I figured it was worthy of the check. I was expecting to see something somewhere near 4.0 VDC as the setting should be. What I found was that all 3 are displaying below .5 VDC with 2 of them in the neighborhood of .25 VDC. With so much discussion inplying that the G-2 voltage is a critical setting it makes me curious what is the G-2 Setting and why does such a low setting seem to have such a minimal effect.
Any Ideas?

Make sure you have the brightness and contrast set correct per the book when checking G2.
You may have a later model 1272 that requires G2 set at 1.5V.

JK. Thanks for the note. Yes I followed the set up discussion and set contrast to 80 and brightness to 50 as indicated and selected an unused input. A most interesting thing that there is no mention of the difference of G-2 setting in later sets. Not being aware of the effect of an excessively high G-2 setting but understanding that the setting is intended to be most specific, I wonder if there is concern of catastrophic failure if set as indicated in the discussion on a "Later model set". This particular 1272 was manufactured in Oct 1996.

Page 2 .. Are you or is anyone else aware if there is there a definitive manufacture date of the 1.5 volt G-2 setting?

Thanks

Further investigation reveals that 1996 was the last year of the 1272 and they can't get much later then that..so I set it at 1.5VDC. So far so good.

I had a 1272 (with the extra black wire from the power supply to the fan on top) that needed the 1.5V G2 and initially set it at 4.0V. It ran like that for a month (60hrs) and did not harm it to my knowledge. I think the G2 voltage is actually tube specific.
