Hey all. Trying to figure out what's going on with my mother's rear projection tv. The thing is 10 years old and just trying to squeeze some more life out of it. The picture is going dark and the image cycles through from being fine to either jumping or spreading or having the top and bottom pin of the image move in to the center distorting it badly. I was looking for a service manual but don't want to spend money on a manual for one tv, and if this things life is done I don't need a manual laying around for nothing. Anyone have any sugestions to get this thing working proper?

The ca at the end is for Canada. PT-61G54 should be the U.S. model number.

Are you able to test/replace components?

I know how to, I just don't have access to any repacement parts to troubleshoot with. I put the post on here and hoped someone recognized the fault from the symptoms and could point me in the right direction. If you have any ideas it would be appreciated. Any help you have. Thanks!

Go inside and locate the flyback transformer. There should be a small board mounted upright near the flyback. On that board look for C581. It should be a 33uf/250 volt cap. Replace that and see how it is.

Oh, and make sure you observe polarity of the cap when you replace it.

Hi. I opened it up and found the capacitor. It is a 33uf cap but it says it's a 160v. Hopefully I can find a match at a local electronics supply shop. We don't have the greatest selection here in Winnipeg. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks again?!

You can increase the voltage if need be, meaning if you cant find a 33uf/160v you can use a 33uf/250v. Actually if you can locate both I would probably use the 250v instead anyways.

That was it man! Thanks alot! It was a nice $2.00 fix. So where did you find the info anyway? It would help if I knew, so next time something like this comes up I can give it a try myself. Do you have a service manual? Thanks again, you're awesome!

Thumbs Up Glad to hear you got it going. I dont think I have the service manual for it. I didnt look. If not they are available online but not always for free but usually for around 5 bucks. Your problem was a common one for that model unit which is why the fix was known. Common fix problems are sometimes able to be found by google but usually not. These fixes are more often found on pay forums which I have access to some.

Of course it was just easier for you to post here to get a solution..... Smile

Oh.....and someone should correct the model number in this thread so others may be able to find it....
