if and when I can figure out with this is I certainly will

I did get the scan fail to be completely removed from the system, but in doing so I fried my RGB board being I had the neck card and magnetics connected up inside minus the tube, it must have not like that at all

I saw a transistor inside on the RGB board on the designated green portion of the signal glow bright orange Shocked

anyway, that is not a biggie, RGB boards are 70$ and I may even be getting a mod set from someone soon which that would include anyway Wink

my problem is no HV at this point and the error light on the controller lighting when a key is pushed

nothing is happening on the EHT so I am thinking it may be that, just got a new confirmed working quad so it has to be the EHT, it blew a fuse last night so it pretty much confirms it

-Gary

Hmmm On the marquee the neck boards can be connected while not connected to the tube, it should be the same for most sets id take it. You should have had the scan coils on the tube at least even though you didn't have the neck board connected to the tube, as long as the heaters and G2 are not connected nothing will happen. I wander if any magnetic feilds went astray
from the scan coils and did something, but doubt it.

Id just get a new transistor and replace the red one, also test any diodes before and after the transistor along with any resistors.

Well it may not be as easy as just replacing that transistor to fix the RGB board, I would check out the rest of the circuitry that its tied to, let me know what transistor it was. I don't understand why all the problems, I thought this was a working machine when you got it.

the RGB board worked just fine everytime I fired the set up for these months I have been working on it, it instantly started cooking when I fired the set up without the green tube and all its gear connected up to see if that was the scan fail problem(which it was), and being it was exactly the green area labeled on the RGB board it can't be a coincidence

no biggie

Didn't you have a HV issue before you took it apart?

too funny, it was pretty scary to see it in that shape Thumbs Down

all is good now

yes, that is why I took it apart to clean refurbish everything, I had a bad quad and the EHT seemed to be working fine, I got a new confirmed working quad and now it seems the EHT is just sitting there doing nothing, not even a red light, it is blowing fuses as well

upon the fire up yesterday I had a scan failure and come to find it is because my green tube is not connected or installed yet, this came at the expense of my RGB board, so whatever, not too bad, I will get her going soon

thanks

When EHT-fuses blow you have an issue! Either a defect FET on the EHT-board (or something else) or a defect Quadrupler.
When projectors have not seen any usage for a long period, the quad can go bad quickly. Maybe that has happened to your new quad also. How long was your quad tested for? How long ago has it seen regular use?
Also bad quads can absorb all the power that the EHT board puts into it and have no 35kV coming out of them. When that happens they have a 'mild' short circuit; not causing the EHT to shutdown but getting hot from absorbing all the EHT power. This situation will not last long and either kill your EHT or seriously burn your quadrupler while smelling very bad!

Get more parts and change one thing at a time, although that may be difficult when you have two problems in a projector. Work accurately, take measurements if possible and you will find the problem. Just stay calm all the time.

Gary try firing up the projector with the HV lead removed from the splitter again. Sounds like a bad EHT/quad though...

Tom, I tried that, made no difference though sadly

thanks for the tips

I have this down to one problem now, just no HV Wink

disconnecting the HV splitter as Tom said makes no difference, so it is out, the EHT has no lights at all on it, nothing

the G2 board and quad are new replacements, sounds like the EHT doesn't it?

Gary in my limited experience with Barco EHT issues it does sound like the EHT board is a likely suspect. Normally bad quads make it go into EHT holdown with the associated LED being on. Also a lot of quads don't completely fail so you often hear some sort of distress noises before the EHT hold down engages. That said my experience in this area is relatively limited so take it for what it is worth.

that is exactly what the original quad did in this unit, distress and funky smell and then LED on EHT

this is a bad EHT for sure, I am 99.5% certain of it, all the playing around with the old quad and damaged G2 board probably cooked it

got her going today with a huge help from MP, my EHT board was bad Wink

everything is fired up and rockin normal, but remember my funky smell? the fried video board, so I have no image only a bright full blown raster with the video leads connected at the neck cards, so that is the last piece of the puzzle, so close Sad

thanks to MP who also sold me a green P19LUG at a killer price with very very faint wear, slapped the green c-element on her, filled with glycol and installed

gettin close!!! Smile

Gary are you saying all the video amps are in overdrive with no input ?

no, only with video input connected is there overdrive

after the initial firing up I decided to take a look at everything, specifically the green tube to make sure the install went ok, check for glycol leaks

I found 3 big spot burns on the newly installed green tube, Crying or Very sad blue and red ok

I give up!! seriously, time for a RS20 Mad

ok, let me make this clear for everyone

NEVER and I mean NEVER fire up the 1209 pj with all the workings of the tube connected minus the actual tube, I did this to see if my scan failure would go away, I found out it did but not without a big cost

a roasted video chain, both RGB boards and you guessed it the green neck card, which in turned gave me spot burns on this newly installed wonderful green tube that was a fabulous deal to boot, wasted time, wasted working parts/tubes, wasted $$$

I can't believe this sh*t Mad Mad

BULL SH*T!

I do this all the time, all makes, all models. you did something else to the set, or something shorted out or the neck board hit the motherboard traces, or....

Personally Gary it concerned me when you were doing all of the modifications like swapping out cables and so forth without getting the projector running first. You had no baseline but I tend to be conservative when it comes to these things. I’m very sorry about your tube that really does suck.

Mike
