2-1/2 ton come-along (ex auto mechanic and all) over some blocking above the pj in the floor joist. I remove it when the pj is in place.

Not sure how I'm gonna do it when I close the cieling in though...

Boat winch in ceiling of equipment closet, cable running above sheetrock, turning about pulleys twice (Once to turn up towards bottom of floor, second at bottom of floor to turn down to PJ.)

So far this arrangement has (mostly) successfully flown a Barco 801, NEC 9PG xtra, and marquee 9501LC, all one-man. I say 'mostly' because before the cable was properly fixtured I dropped the barco Shocked BUT there was an air mattress under it!

Two guys. We use a come along to get it 95% of the way and then lift it into the mounting cradle by hand. With the sony mount it wouldn't be much harder to do it all by hand but I felt safer having the cable hold it up if we messed up.

Two guys, one projector. Wink

No, seriously. My buddy and I just dead-lifted the G70 from the floor to the mount. Took about 30 seconds. OK, my helper friend was there for 15 minutes while we moved the chairs, lifted it, and then I bolted it up.

Of course, it's only a 93" ceiling, we were on an 8" riser, my buddy and I are both 6'-plus and it helps immensely to have a factory mount with hooks that drops right in. Thanks, Ray!!!

We did have a spotter in case something went wrong.

I went a route similar to AMT Austin.
Bought an electric winch on ebay & then fabbed it up a saw-horse contraption that fits in the rails that hold my 2 Ultras.

I can take both up & down in well under 10 minutes. A center ceiling support requires the saw horse to make 2 trips up the ladder but it is 50 lbs or so.

LMAO! I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Thanks for the chuckle. Mr. Green

Thanks all for the great pointers. Our theater actually has a drop ceiling and plenty of room for a winch and/or pulley system. I'll figure out something along those lines.

A winch is great, but don't discount Clarence's most excellent chain system. I put a couple up with the long-threaded-rod approach ronholm described. It worked but it was a pain. Then I tried Clarence's system. I can take an 8500 from the floor to the ceiling, **by myself**, in 10 minutes. Took another few minutes of futzing to get it hooked into the mount, but from start to "take down the chains" was less than 20 minutes, with a lot less sweat than the all-thread route. It's a great, simple solution.

Start by removing the three lenses. Three HD-10 lenses way approx 20kg in total!

If you have a Barco, remove the top plastic cover and also open the lid and remove all boards, including the convergence tray. Whats left can be easily picked up and lifted bij one person, the weight has come down to more than 50%. If you have a Barco mount, you can slide it sideways in the the mount all by yourself.

This is (again) a benefit of a Barco. Marquee's and Sonys are bulky and more difficult to handle.

The chain method is a smart!

Put mine up all by myself... Shocked Wink

Lift projector to desk, stand on chair and lift projector to the chair on desk, stand on desk an lift projector onto the box, bolt projector to bracket and voila! I guess with anything bigger than my 9PG+ (126 pounds) it would have been tough. It looks worse than it was.
