Bias and gain are for color balance and grey scale. Have you ever thought of calibrating it?

resetting bias and gain to defaults goes along with the brightness and contrast settings before adjusting G2 - according to the instructions I followed.
Ultimately - you still would want a colorimeter to complete the job.

AS I recal Bias is black level and Gain is white level. It's been a couple of years since I played with mine and my projector is down and out right now. ( oddly though the Ampro IS running )

ok, so i got my i1 LT in the mail yesterday! i fiddled with it a little with my laptop's screen. i have a few questions.
***i understand the original Avia should not be used?
***can the original DVE be used?
***should i not use the imatch software due to its inferiority?
***it seems the imatch only works with pc's and their own screens, and it makes adjustments to the video adaptor not the display itself. is that correct?
***are the test screens in the same location on the old DVE as the new DVE?
***i have a Radion 9800 vid card in my HTPC. i know it has gamma controls on it as well as my TheaterTek player software. if i need to make gamma adjustments, where is the best place to do it? i also use powerstrip, but i dont think theres any gamma adjustments there...
***also, using imatch, it never asked me to place the unit on a flat black surface to "calibrate". is that a function of other calibration software and not imatch?

I have used the attached procedure with my 1252 with good results. It's a little rough however after you implement it a few times you will get the feel of how it works. I found this procedure some time ago in the avs forum.
A few deviations I would recommend experimenting with:
In the procedure "SETTING MINIMUM OUTPUT FOR GREEN" set the green bias such that from your normal viewing position, and under a complete dark environment, you can just make out the diagonal green squares on the screen. Of course the red and blue should be cutoff when doing this as well as status off. I found if this value is too high the black background moves toward gray.
In the procedure "SETTING MAXIMUM OUTPUT FOR GREEN" try a value of 10% less then factory preset value. I found if this value is too high the bright white objects look saturated.
