i'm working on getting my hands on a colorimeter but i need to refresh my memory.
**the AKB line, should i disable it? it seems to have gotten more noticable over time.
**G2, is there anything else to default other than contrast and brightness before i adjust? would the status of the AKB affect the g2 adjustment?
thx!

I got mine out last week and I have been slowly tweaking it over the last few nights. I will try to get some Pics up soon of my 111" wide 2.35 screen. Smile So far it's looking good.

Right there are two different voltage amounts for the Sony 12xx's either 1.5v or 4.0v depending on the generation of your projector. You will have to look around to see what yours should be at.

I'm sure you've seen this: http://www.curtpalme.com/Sony125x_White_Balance.shtm
But if not....

I suggest NOT to disable AKB.

I disabled it on my 1272, then I enabled it after one year of use. I could not see the difference, but mainly without AKB you have to wait 10/15 minutes until the brightness of the picture reach its maximum.
I realize it was because the AKB was deactivated just after many many many recalibration of the brightness Very Happy

I don't know your particular voltage. But you have to run the CRT for a while, then set the G2 with the BIAS screen displayed.

i mean i wont turn off the AKB. about the g2 settings. i have the blue serial number sticker on the case, which tubes do i have and what voltage shouls i have? and when setting voltage, after reseting gain and bias and setting the contrast to 80 and brightness to 50, should i sellect an input with no feed or just set with souse connected?

Just swing up the board covering the tubes and look at the stickers on them. If you have the 07msp, 1.5v is supposed to be the value. And set it with the input set to an unused port.

I would not just reset the BIAS and GAIN value: I would set them to 128. Sony's procedure is incomplete for me: it's not explained how to set that values if you make a total reset. So IMHO the stored values have no particular importance.

I do not remember if you have to set a no-input status... check on the service manual. But I think it's not so important.

See that angled downhard heatsink area at the top? That is attached to a large swinging plate - you want to work the perimeter of that plate to loosen/remove screws and ease it up. You'll see the tubes underneath that.

Smile its much more painful to the neck doing this upside down!! i didnt realize i could see so much of the tube with this board open! ok, my next question...i have seen a couple of people adjusting gain and bias by looking into the lens, will i still need to to this? what is the next step after setting g2 with the meter? i have the DVE disk ready to make the next adjustment...

ok guys, ive reset my g2 to 1.5 vdc with contrast @ 80 and brightness @ 50. i understand these are the factory defaults? and with no source connected. i then popped in DVE and went through the basic video adjustments. the brightness at 50 was too bright and i dropped it down to 35 per the brightness vid test on the disk. i went through the rest of the basic adjustments. my g2's were way off and my picture is much better now. and my AKB line is much less noticable now! im still loosing shadow detail though. what would be the next step? i asked earlier about the adjustments of the bias and gain by looking into the tubes but no one responded. wouldnt that screw up my physical adjustment of the g2 that i just done? or was that adjustment just ment to put me in the ballpark of correctness?
