So can anyone sell me a set of known good neck boards for less than I paid for the whole projector ? Or is it time to leave....

Try to fire up the set with one neck card umbilical disconnected at a time and see if the PJ runs with out the problem... do it after its been on for a while and warmed up. I found mine did this after the PJ was warm. The PJ should run for a few minutes with out the VNB connected. that should be enough time for the problem to come up, i found scenes with high frequencies in it caused it more than others... Like lots of white and black together(more whites) . Do each VNB connecting the Previous one back on. When it happens again you found your bad VNB.
The easier way is to monitor the voltage from a few points on the Vim but you need an extender card to reach those points.

it neither, tis the bunch of black wires that plug into the VNB and the mother board. it might be easier to unplug the ones on the mother board.
its the black bunch of cables with the white connectors that goes to the VNB and the mother board red connectors in this pic
On the green tube they are connected, in the place where the red tube should be you see it connected to the mother board but the other end goes out of the picture.

Ok, so leave all other connections and unplug the large white connector with the multiple black wires, got it.
Thanks very much, I hope this will allow me to identify the bad board...

Have you considered the chance that you might have a gay projector.

So, out of desperation, I started slamming boards into this beast AGAIN...and now its working with a different CLM...hmmmm
Well, lets see how long it lasts...
What exactly does the CLM control ?
And by gay I assume you mean a happy projector ? Which is why it likes to "wink" ?

This is my first post to this problem
| Nashou66 wrote: | | first off did you do the mandatory cleaning of all boards and especially the chips on the CLM and DPB? |
The CLM controls lots of the sync timings, G2 levels, focus wave forms, convergence wave forms etc,etc.etc.....
This is one of the first boards to check when wierd problems arise, then the HDM.

So it ran for about 10 minutes, no issues whatsoever, then quit with a racing red light on the CLM...
Never seen that one, but I think I've heard about it before, what is the racing red light on the CLM(ie. races between all error lights up and down...).
I will pull all chips and clean again in the mean time...

I usually get the racing lights if the DPB is not on( I forgot to put it back after chip cleaning) or it has lost contact on that board. Worse case a bad CLM.
Clean the chips on the OLD CLM also and retry. If the cleaning cant do it it might be a bad solder joint on the CLM to DPB connectors on either board. This is hard to
see as it might look ok when cold but after the boards get hot the joint can expand and contract loosing contact. If you can solder it might be wise to reflow each pin
on the underside of the boards.

Well I cleaned all the socketed chips AND used Deoxit5 on all the pins and chips etc on the original CLM that wouldn't run for more than a few minutes and its been going for about 10 minutes now... I have to go to bed though, working the day shift tomorrow, I'll have to wait till tomorrow to really run it for a good long trial...Thanks for all the input on this.
