Stop the train.
You can config this thing sans remote? I beseech thee, show me the way.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'll put down the soldering iron to avoid the risk of making a very big paper weight.. (whew, that took every last bit of strength in me, considering I live to void warantees)
Teach me projector wizards.
Also, AnalogRocks: you can carry this compact refridgerator by yourself? I bow to your strength.
I'm sure I could, but the doctor bills would far offset the cost efficiency of knocking on my neighbors door for help, then buying them a cheeseburger when the d50 (nick-named Optimus Prime) hits it's destination.

I must admit, I'm a victim of chronic RASTERbation.

Check this out.
I couldn't believe this.
I opened everything up on the d50, and I noticed on the left of the control panel on the back of the machine, there was a 4 pin connector with color codes matching the schematics I was pouring over earlier. So against my better judgment, I pulled it (with the PJ off of course) and carefully connected it to the CN1 connector on the bottom side of the 12xx remote, hit the power button, and sweet lord, the projector fired up. You can plug this 12xx chassis remote directly to the d50 (albeit the cord length is limited)
chew on that for a minute.

Ain't life sweet?
Neat to know!
I never actually looked. Mine came with a big shinny remote that was never used and an Executive remote so the previous owners coulnd't f'k it up That one was covered in coffee. I HATE coffee.
I had my D50 in the back of my pick up truck when the freezing rain started. I grabbed it by the handles ( slippery when wet by the way ) and ran up 14 stairs with it. I made it into the living room and sorta did a gentle, controlled drop onto the couch.
You know how you have reserve power fueled by adrenilin? Well I had about...well...enuff to make it to the couch. I had the lenses pointed up, the projector resting on my right knee to hike it up because the handles were wet and I couldn't get a proper grip.
So if you ever decide to carry one by yourself be prepared for a landing zone. Make sure NOT to wet the handle down first. The next time I did 14+ stairs with the D50 I got help. I can still carry it around the house but hey you aren't supposed to move a CRT once it's perfectly set up .
The Ampro 4000 well I had help getting that onto the stand, there are no handles on it. We lifted it over a chair with the lenses on it. Just........don't try it.
EDIT: spreling

I was pleasantly surprised by the handles on the d50. Oh Sony, every once in awhile their designs make sense.
I got the remote plugged in, only to find it has no enter key, and considering I'm using the tether for the chassis control, the enter key on the box is useless, meaning I can't enter service control mode. And aparently you can't enter service control mode from the keys on the machine, unless there's a problem with mine.
correct me if im wrong, but service control mode is (enter, >, enter, >, up, > down, >, enter)?
Back to the ole breadboard.

I moved my "spare" D50 out of the car, through the house, up the stairs and into the attic by myself while the wife was out so that it could be properly hidden before she got home. Had 2 visits to the Chiropractor and one to the doctor the next week for pain pills for my back.
Yes, to enter programming mode it is "enter, enter, up, down, enter". Let me take a look in the attic to see if my spare came with a remote that I may be able to let go. If you have a pronto I may have the ccf file for the D50 that I could send you.

Today I was plugging along on the ole PJ, I reconnected the chassis remote, lined it up to pin 1, all as it should be. Low and behold, I hit the buttons and the service control mode screen popped up. Must've been a faulty old connection that was rectified when I re-seated the plug. Tossing between the remote and the panel I got the thing up and running. have my macbook jacked in right now with an HD copy of speed racer.....holy balls.
Mine eyes have not beheld such glory in my own home. Sweet nectar.
Thanks to everyone for the help! I Can't believe this forum, you guys really went above and beyond to help me out. Just let me know if you need something hacked, all I need is my D.M.M., my scopes, and a pack of smokes to get any hack done.
And thanks for the pic uploads Analog, my remote doesn't have the enter key as shown on your remote, I took a pic and when I get home I'll upload it so you can see the one I have, and maybe tell me a little more about it.
I must admit, a small part of me died when I didn't HAVE to solder anything. Maybe I'll make some cables later on to get it out of my system. Now, on to the senseless tweaking and adjustment ahead of me!

Whoah, whoah, whoah.... Wait, "macbook jacked in right now with an HD copy of speed racer"?!?!?! WTF? Are you booting into Windows with an external BD player, or do you mean you're playing an HD rip under OS X?
Glad you're having fun! Welcome to the addiction that is CRT/HT!

It's just an mpeg4 BD rip. The bluray player is my next purchase.
This d50 is so sweet. The image is painfully sharp, that is unless you drive too many lines through it, seems like is can't resolve high res with as much sharpness when you squish the image to 16:9. Like the scan lines are overlapping.
I think I've been configing this thing senseless. I guess one could call it RASTERbation.

I actually rasterbated until I passed out last night. I had just enough energy left in me to shut the pj off. The lights were already off so I just passed out. The wife came in about 6 this morning I had the covers off the pj, manuals strewn about the remote with the cable going to the pj sitting next to me...I wasn't even embarrassed at all. She was totally cool about it. I think it turned her on actually because I got an absolutely fantastic piece this morning.
I am going to spend the whole day rasterbating again today.

Thanks haha.
I was a victim of chronic rasterbation, due my old analog converged 1020. That thing drifted like a ghost ship.
I found help though. Just in time.

I was up all last night trying different placements for my PJ, trying to figure out the best place to mount it. The d50 came with a ceiling bracket, but I'm not sure mounting it to the ceiling of this 100 year old building is the best idea, the combined weight of the PJ and bracket are above 200 pounds, and this building was standing when the titanic sank. To be perfectly honest, I don't think this ceiling has the nads to support the weight of such a glorious imaging apparatus.
I'm having more fun with this projector than a person should. If was still in a relationship I'm sure this obsession would end it. She never appreciated a quality image anyway. She was more than content to watch movies on a 13" westinghouse LCD TV who's contrast was spec'd full on/off at 400:1 (uncontrollable vomit)
I still can't believe how sharp the image is when you pump some res into this tri-gun box. When I pause a dvd played through the HT pc, that craziness is sharper than a Rembrant.
If anyone has any D50 tips/tricks/recommendations please post them. I want to get this baby spec'd out. I Want people to FEAR the quality of my images.
I realized I do need to get a blue tube. This thing was planted in a bored room. (not a typo, a wordplay to demonstrate the boredom this poor PJ suffered/endured) and they had the raster set very small, so when I jump out to 16:9 the outer 20% of the imaging area is MUCH more blue than the center. I wish I had the money to send this thing off to curt and let him sprinkle some Canadian PJ magic all on it, I'm sure he could really bring out the glory on this thing.
I must admit, seeing what this 7 inch ES can do, I'm already scheming to get at least an 8 inch. The 800 lumens out of this box are nice, a far cry from my original 450 lumens, but I can't help but lust for 1200 lumens. I'm sure it must be sweeter than the divine ambrosia. I'd love to see a 9 inch set in the heat of battle.
But I digress, the point of this post was just to say once again to everyone:
Thank you for your help/advice. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!
Like I said, you need a hack? PM me, I'll get some extra horse power out of your weak-sauce driven device. So long as it uses electricity that is.
My next project, trying to amp up my 1020, I plan on taking that classic to a galactic echelon! (translation: see if I can get better lumens/res/anything than this thing was originally spec'd to do. i.e. I found a guy who modded his with a switchable S-video input) It has a set of Deltas on it that I scrapped from my ecp when it passed peacefully into that good night.
I had also toyed with the idea of mounting the 1020 very close to the d50 and converging them to the same screen, so that when I watch Images that don't require the glory, I can watch them on the 1020, and extend the lifespan of the GLORY!
Also, I scrapped a few boards out of the ECP before it was hauled away (tubes were junk), and I also still have the ACON, so if someone needs one and can trade me a d50/70/12xx remote with IR, we have a deal. Otherwise, just buy one from Curt, and keep this knowledge oasis ALIVE!!!
