I bought SOCOM: Confrontation three months ago and still have not opened it. Its my first PS3 game. Even came with a free Bluetooth headset for $50.

I'm playing Metal Gear Solid 4. One question though....how the hell do you get off the first level?
Maybe it's because I'm too tired to see any longer. halp. |
Google "Metal Gear Solid 4 Walkthrough". There should be several around with tips and hints about how to play. I've done this for a couple games (Resistance FOM for instance) to get the skinny on where to go next. Kind of frustrating to walk around aimlessly looking for the "magic" door to the next level, but this has helped me a lot.

Really depends on what sort of games you like.
Hit a couple of review sites and look at their top 20 or so PS3 games. Here one list:
http://www.gamespot.com/reviews.html?type=reviews&platform=1028&mode=all&sort=score&dlx_type=all&sortdir=asc&official=all
The top 10:
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots 10.0 Jun 13, 2008
Grand Theft Auto IV 10.0 Apr 28, 2008
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion 9.5 Mar 23, 2007
Resistance 2 9.0 Nov 5, 2008
Dead Space 9.0 Oct 31, 2008
BioShock 9.0 Oct 28, 2008
LittleBigPlanet 9.0 Oct 16, 2008
NHL 09 9.0 Sep 17, 2008
Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution 9.0 Jul 24, 2008

Download the demo of Burnout Paradise. It's a blast. My wife really likes Little Big Planet and I played Oblivion quite a bit.

Here's a vote for Burnout Paradise. Lots of fun for $20.

The only downside to the PS3 Oblivion is you can't mod it or use the consolecommands. I've been playing morrowind and oblivion for years on my PC because players have created new mods for, weapons, clothes, quests, buildings, etc... Every time I get bored I download a bunch and see what they are like. The PS3 version will keep me honest though. No using the ~ key and typing in cheat codes.
The game is lots of fun though. No multiplayer, first person quest game.
I'm a keyboard and mouse guy too. Before the PS3 an Wii, my last console was the original nintendo. The remote gets easier and easier to use. I downloaded the force unleashed and bioshock demos to get used to the remote. It's actually pretty neat and doesn't take long to get used to. I can't believe how much abuse the little joystick thingies will take.

I bought GTA San Andreas(PS2 ) and Silent Hill Home Comming(PS3). Now if there was just 36 hours in a day I'd have time to play them.

I have GT 5 PL and have a lot of fun with the two person racing. Espcially with wheels. Anyone know how to hack the game so that Ic can drive a Ferrari without having to 'earn' a gazillion points? I don't have time (or patience) to run junkards all day!

Do you like the arcade fighting game genre?
Soul Calibur 4
Lots of customaization, and stunning visuals. Its a bit easier of a fighting game to get into as it is very 'newbie' friendly, while still giving room for those who like to be pro at these sort of games. I mostly like it because I can button mash against friends and still have fun :p.
Tekken
A bit more serious fighting game then Soul Calibur 4. Button mashing does not work as well -- you will get clobbered by anyone that has some knowledge of move lists and in which situations they are best executed. It can be found on the Playstation Network and is a HD version of the arcade game. I think there is a Tekken 6 coming out eventually as well.
Street Fighter HD
The classic presented in HD. I is decent, but I am not much into it (probably because I didn't play the original).

There are save files for download on gamefaqs:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps3/save/942026.html
A word of warning before you try this. Some games have their save files tied to your PS3, so other people's saves will not work (the game will detect them as belonging to another PS3). I do not know if GT5 PL has this implemented or not. So remember to backup your save files before you replace them. I had tried this very thing on Soul Calibur 4, and ended up losing all my data by replacing it with a save file the game wouldn't let me load :p. Although with SC4 it only took me a few hours to gain what I had back.
