Sort of, same idea, although mostly I just noticed the wear on the bottom of the screen. It may be on the sides as well but I haven't scrutinized it closely enough. So I want to reduce the v-size a bit to hide the wear I see on the bottom, which would be followed by a corresponding reduction in h-size (which has plenty of room to shrink).

Dude, I am sooooo jealous of you. Most guys want a G90, I want a 9500 ultra, modded and tweaked for my ultimate machine. Thumbs Up

Curt has or did have exactly that, but I don't have the $$$$ to get it. there will be others.

You might be able to use the scaler to get that little bit extra V size reduction. or you can do the 2.35 squeeze mod i mentioned earlier.

Is there any wear above the image on the tube face? if there is you might have to only shift the image into the wear area.

Ah, good point - hadn't thought of that. I can use the DVDO Edge's underscan feature.

This occurred to me as well when I was writing my previous post. I'm not sure if the wear extends above the image - I'll check it when my LVPS comes back.

OK, so I took a look at the VDM to figure out what resistors I have. I must admit I'm totally out of my element here. Not sure I'm looking at the right thing. I did a little bit of reading up on Wikipedia to understand how to decipher resistor colors. Have a look at the image below. I think it's a 5-band resistor. The first band is really faded (I thought originally it was a 4-band) - and I can't tell if it's meant to be white or gray. That would put the resistor at 94.7 or 84.7 kOhm, respectively. Does that make any sense?

I was really curious about pursuing the MP mods, until I found out how much they cost (!!!!).

Just a quik look at the pic tells me they are 47K. If you tell me what board it's on and what the resistor number it is, it looks like R804 I might be able to look it up.

Those are 47kohm, the one band is nothing, you have Yellow(4), Purple(7) and the multiplier is Orange(3) Gold is 5%. so its 47Kohm, i bit smaller than the 56kohm most use but it would reduce size compared tot he 30kohm originally. If you go up to 68Kohm you'll be able to squeeze down to 2.35 aspect when using 800p from a Lumagen scaler or a DVDO VP50.

Athanasios

Color__Value_Multiplier_Tolerance(%)

Black____ 0___0___________-
Brown____1__1__________±1
Red_____ 2___2__________±2
Orange___3___3________±0.05
Yellow____4___4________ -
Green____5___5________±0.5
Blue_____6___6________±0.25
Violet____7___7________±0.1
Gray____8____8________-
White___9____9________ -
Gold____ -____-1_______±5
Silver____-____-2_______±10
None____ -_____-_____ ±20

Example 1
(Brown=1),(Black=0),(Orange=3)
10 x 103 = 10k ohm
Tolerance(Gold) = ±5%

Example 2
(Yellow=4),(Violet=7),(Black=0),(Red=2)
470 x 102 = 47k ohm
Tolerance(Brown) = ±1%

Got my mount up! w00t w00t! Smile Bolted in a couple bars of Unistrut (thanks to the help of directions on this site) and attached my chief motorized lift mount.

Pic is from my cell phone so the quality is craptastic.

So I finally got a screen - it only took me three months to decide! I ended up choosing the Stewart StudioTek 130 G3. A bit on the pricey side (understatement of the year) but it was very noticeably better than all the other materials I tested, and I tested A LOT.

Anyway, this is the first chance I've had to do a full setup. I used Bill Blue's guide but had to go off-script to stay within the off-center wear pattern on the green. It took forever! Finally got it all dialed in last night and, man, I am in love with my projecctor all over again! The image is absolutely stunning. I would post more pics but my digicam just died.

I couldn't have done it without all the help everyone has been so kind in giving. Thanks!

Btw, those focus coils, can any damage be done to the tube while fiddling with the coil? I found the coils to be a bit stubborn - getting the image to move in the direction I wanted was a constant challenge. And I was afraid to put too much pressure on the thing. I was hoping to use the coils to move the image far enough into the wear area but it didn't quite make it. In the end I had to also compensate electronically as well. Oh well, still a very pleasing image.

Next up, gamma boost! Hopefully I win that contest. Smile

I'd been wondering how I could determine a more exact build date for my pj. Well I just installed a Moome card today, which required removing the back plate to the extra VIM slot. On the interior side of the back plate there's a stamp that reads: "May 19 2000". Neat!
