.. when you have a sexostack! Very Happy

(or if you're Borat, it's a sexytimestack).

There's actually 9 projectors in the poor GM van, it was groaning and creaking.

These are part of the 29 BG808s sets that I bought, originally for parts, but the tubes seem to be in really good shape. Running through a bunch of them now. I'll be selling some cheeep to recover some of the $3000 in shipping costs, and will part some out.

If you've got a BG808s (or 1208s that uses the Sony tubes) with toasty tubes, and cringe at the $1300 each price from VDC, I's gots some deals for you! Mr. Green

Yes, they are stacked 3 tall, there's some marks on the cabinets, but damnnnn, did the surplus place do a good job packing these, best I've ever had in in the 9 years I've been doing this.

Mr. Green Thumbs Up Mr. Green Thumbs Up

I'm actually taking a break from setup in the theater on the triple stack. It's a lot more challenging than I thought it would be, but damn, it's BRIGHT AS HELL!!!!!!! Cool

How come you pop up with this stuff when I don't have any money, Curt?

Then again, my tubes now aren't half bad, so it probably wouldn't make sense to retube unless it was a REAAALLLY smokin' deal.

Guys!

The Electrohome engineers spoke of getting bored one time, and started stacking ECP4100s on a twelve foot screen. Two was definitely better than one, three was brighter still, some improvement with four, and five provided no real difference. We set up two at a hotel once on a twelve foot screen, and what was eerie was they seemed to interlace each other at 480i and the scan lines disappeared!!!!!!

Peri, why do you think I want to sell these? I have no money either. Very Happy

First two went on the bench. One is a very late model vintage 2002 BG808s, but using Panasonic tubes. A P16 number that I haven't seen before. Plugged it in... POOF! Someone had left the controller board loose, it was lying across the AC power line, and blew the bench breaker. Very Happy

Fired it up, very faint vertical lines burnt into all three tubes. Still worth retubing though, this set is the 'e' version that's hard to find. It also has a power supply board that I've never seen before, a 763XXX part number, so it goes into my test stock.

Second BG808s, 1997 vintage. 5300 hours on it, works fine, minor G2 tweaking, no wear on the tubes. I'm guessing the first set had the tubes replaced at some point in time, the second one has original tubes, but focusing and emission is great. Looking at 2 more, then I'll post them in the f/s section.

The record for me was 11 Barco 708 and one 2100LC (!) in a Rav 4. Took out the passenger's seat, and drive to Spokane, Wa. to pick them up.

Not after buying 29 BG808ses you don't! Razz

Tell you what, I'll trade a set of tubes for... uh... *looks around* ... 34 VGA cables, a broom, a string of LED christmas lights (very good on/off contrast), and a Blackberry 8700 with a cracked screen and a scroll wheel that sometimes goes backwards.

Sound good? Thumbs Up

I showed my wife the pictures of Curt's van and Gary's SAAB as some sort of proof that I'm not THAT crazy... and she simply replied, "You guys are ALL insane... And you can tell your little friends on the forum I said so."

I said, "Damn straight."

It is only insane if the projectors in question were AMPROs - anything else is just moderately nutts

Yeah, one of the problems with group therapy is that it can reinforce aberrant behavior, but just because we are in the minority does not make us crazy.

.... except for the Ampro guys

......and the guys that only have one projector...

or less than 2 boxes of spare parts...

....and Jeremy

I all seriousness, if I had the opportunity to sift through 29 808s projectors I really would stack them in the theater. Why not? I did it fine with (2) BG808 (non s)'s and they weren't nearly as nice as picking out of the best of your 808s's. Your 808's's probably won't look quite as sharp as G90's but they will be a hell of a lot quieter and better looking chassis wise.

If you do side by side, I would take the left and right covers off in order to get them closer with each other. It will work.
