Had pretty good success (found out this is an ultra). Was able to adjust the astig and focus coil for a good improvement.

draganm, you were right, no matter how much I fiddled with the mechanics I was unable to get a perfectly round stig flair. Can someone clue me in where to get ahold of the 6 pole sets? The result was plenty acceptable (considering I still do not have a proper screen). But I know there is still more available.

Using the HTPC as a source for setting the final convergence after all the adjustments were done had a good effect on the movie quality too. Line thickness on the # patterns was cut to about half what it was. I bet having a pro run through one of these is an impressive thing to behold.

P.S. I found the (root) source of the wierd waving lines I had in the raster, the boards between the tubes were falling out!!! one of the screws used to hold the heat sink on the back of the projector had backed out. This let the sink hang a bit and since the housings for the boards are supported by the sink they were hanging a bit too. Needless to say the little that they were plugged in let loose the moment the panels were removed... Plugged them firmly back in and- no more raster lines Smile

Re-capping and upgrading the 3 video neck-boards has the biggest improvement on line-thickness I've see so far.
Glad you found the problem though, the way they mounted those 2 vertical boards is one of the very few glitches in the marvelous Marquee design.

Capacitors I am familiar with (rc car stuff), any good place to find a list of what caps people are using and specifically where?

Any idea where to get 6-pole magnet sets?

I use a 160V 22Uf Nichikon 105C temp. rating 10 x 16mm radial leads, I buy them from mouser in bags of 100. Be very careful when removing/replacing the big gold heat-sink, if you bust one of the ceramic transistors the board is hosed.
The 2-4-6 pole rings are kind of rare, as with other things VDC quit selling them to us. You have to find someone parting out an 8110

Also recaping the focus board is a good idea, there are a bunch of 470uf caps that you should change to 1000uf low esr caps, also some 100uf non polar caps near there that you could up the voltage rating, then look at the caps at the incoming power rails, those you can go to lower esr caps and up the voltage as well, maybe the value too.

Edit: Do you guys preheat the boards or just go at it with a 14~40 watt iron?
I think the kids got to my solder sucker and I'm out of wicking braid so I guess I've got to put in an order at digikey anyway.
While we're on the subject, have you guy's upgrded the fans or added sinks to any of the chips or transistors?

Smile would have been a first for me, capping something down... Considered the typo thing but you wrote 100uf twice.
