Hold on now your freaken me out man
I just went through the G2 levels and set them where the link instructed me to. They were all within =/- 3 of the recomendation.
Taking the boards out earlier and wiggling helped the fuzz alot and I just noticed it's gone completley at a contrast of about 14, you can't see it at all in any of the internal patterns now at a contrast of 50.
Yes, RCA's seem tight. I didn't unplug them earlier but did give them a little twist to help the cable clear the card when inserted.

Chasing you from thread to thread. It's a good thread for noob's anyway. Perfect info and should be easy to find in the search engine.

One last question befor sleep. What do you think about getting the shade material (non-backed) and building a custom frame? I found it for around $5 a square foot cut to any size I need.
I'll check back after a short nap.

You're getting into hi-end CRT so cheaply it's scary. Screw building a swing down screen and look for a Stewart pull down tab tensioned 1.3 gain screen. You got a FREE low hour Vision One??? You do really suck big hairy smelly dog nuts.

It's not that I'm incapable of investing some money on a good screen, I just don't want to have to invest big money on a custom screen. I would like to fit the screen to the projector versus fitting the projector to the screen, like cmjohnson said, center the lenses raster at it's peak position and distance by what makes focus best- but keep it just like that and fit the screen to it.
I still have a good list of other items to make this secondary cinema complete. I havn't even got the high end video card or any periferals for the system yet. PS3, speakers, another surround processor, a comfy chair, ect...

You might want to look in to the WilsonArt DW screen. DW is "Designer White", the color of the material. This is a counter top laminate that has worked well for a lot of people. I am about to make one myself. You can do the project for about $100-125 depending on size. It just involves laminating the material to a substrate, like 3/4" MDF, then trimming the edges with a trim-router bit.

I think at this point the plan is to fee-bay a 1.3 da-lite 120" screen and cut it down, build a custom swing down ridged frame and call it good for about $150. The best compromise for me, decent screen in any size I want at a cost that won't overly postpone my next step.

I have a Da-Lite 1.3 gain 12 foot wide pull down I use now, it works great and looks good.
Eventually some day i may upgrade but why? unity gain is the next step for the blend. If you want call Hurley Screens they make cheap screens, they will have a seam if they are taller than i think 56 inches or 60 some inches I cant remeber.

Beware of Hurley - get it in writing that whatever screen size you're going to order will be seamless. I had corresponded with a rep from Hurley for several weeks and they only informed me that the screen would have a seam AFTER they charged my credit card and then refused to refund my money. However AMEX sided with me so I got a refund in the end. It's a real shame because I liked the superglo material a lot...see this thread:

Haha...it's in the thread title, man! 51"
Though it may be different for other fabrics. That was the Superglo.

Yay! I finally watched a movie tonight! The new Hulk movie (yes on a bed sheet, but I did hang a dark blue one behind to stop the reflection from the white wall behind
I tinkered with the projector all day today 9am till about 7:30pm, first made a set of 2x4 "rails" to slide the projector back and fourth to find the optimum throw distance with the lenses centered, found that 144" still isn't far enough, but that kills the access to the back of the projector so I brought it forward to about 137". This gives me access, and is just inside the focus range of the bellows.
I then got into the EM focus and astig adjustment, helped a bunch but still not producing round dots in the test pattern??? not at center and worse the closer you get to the edges... Fired up the acon and let it do it's thing- who ever said you can do a better job yourself was right. Such a poor difference I didn't save the results when it was done.
The first 20 minutes of the movie was spent with the utility menu on goofing with the color settings. I found that my wife has a pretty good eye too. I think she's getting into the results now that most of the tinkering has a visual effect. Now I can say things like "honey you know how the CRT doesn't look as sharp as the LCD? Well this $200 gismo will help that" hehehehe
Tomarrow is into the cards and contacts, still have a bit of noise in the picture that needs to be corrected and the focus could definitly be better. Letters with the PC screen are hardly discernable (at 2048x1536) I'm sure it could be better.
Thanks for the help guys, I was very greatful while just enjoying my CRT tonight.
I'll be back into all the links you guys have put up, I studied them, but now I'm going to put them into practice.
Thanks again

Try a lesser resolution. You are kind of maxing it out at 2048x1536. I would use 1280x1024 for a desktop and maybe 1080P/48 for the movies.
If you use powerstrip you could do a 1920x800P@72Hz for the 2.35:1 movies and stress the projector less. Also try 1920x1080P at 48Hz. Again not as hard on the projector.

Will do AR, guess I was thinking that a higher resolution would enhance the picture quality. I'll have to get powerstrip, my options are 1900x1200 or 1900x1440 but not 1920x1080 (no interlaced or progressive options).
Any idea why I can't get round dots or a absolute focus? I deal with digitals at work in AWSOME theaters on a regular basis, could it be that I'm just not going to get the same clarity here?

doing the Astig magnets is not easy to get right the first time. You need to do many iterations before you finally have the AHA!!!! moment!!!!
CPC magnets are easiset t do when you know for sure they are in the null posiston when all the tabs on the other side ae placed togewther,ot the turning knobs the tabs.
Spin the rings arond on the neck to set those tabs together then spin them back around to get the knobs up top, clamp it down tight and start over. read guy kos gide and look for bill blues on the Marquee down load site her as well.

nashou66, I didn't actually get into the physical magnets. Only did the adjustments available via the util menu.
I've read enough on the forums so far that I should have seen it coming
Guess I'll be into them today, along with the other stuff I need to get to in the case... Now hows that go, one hand in my back pocket I am an involved tinkerer, crazy stuff like rebuilding electronic speed controlers for brushless RC cars and completley building a wiring harness for my chevelle (don't have anymore) and stuff like that. I adept but I've made stupid mistakes too, like going from reading amps to checking voltage without switching the leads back on the volt meter.
I'll just be very careful.

the stig flare will never be round on a stock marquee with only 2-pole flare rings and no triangularity adjustment. Also, 2048 x 1536 is ridiculously high, even 1920 x 1080P at 72Hz is really beyond what a 10 year old Marquee can really do. Back when the machine was new it might have been just inside it's parameters but it needs quite a bit of board work to fully resolve that today.
