nashou66, where are the u35 and u16 chips located (which board)? So I can check them to make sure they are fully seated. hoping this will fix my squigly lines issue like it did for you and paulb in the "pulsing squigly noise? on vertical lines on marquee (solved)" thread.

on the back its the board on the left if floor mounted, the bottom board. pull it out nas also clean the chips contacts on the adjoining DPB(deflection Processor board) and the DPB's connector pins to the CLM. Can you take pics of the squiggly lines? It can also be a timing issue if your using a Video processor of HTPC.
the marquee's like a long retrace time, if its too short the verticle lines will move back and forth causing them to show that squiggly. now is this with the internal
grids or from an external grid pattern? if its internal then it might be the CLM and DPB chips.

Thanks for the info, I was just looking at that board this morning. I did the factory reset just to make sure I had not some how changed settings to make this happen. It has the noise constantly, not just when something is displayed. I will take a picture when I get home tonight and post it up.

Thanks again for the help.

So, how many hours are on your new toy?
What condition are the CRT faces in?
Being a 9500LC from that era, it should have a green C element but not a red one. When looking at the PJ from the front
with it turned off, shine a light at it. The green CRT should look green but the red and blue should both reflect white.
You will want to upgrade the red by adding a red C element IF you are very lucky and can find one. They're no longer available from
the manufacturer. It's also not a trivial project to install one but it's not rocket science, either.
Physical distance setup is best done by first taking the green raster out to near maximum available size on the CRT face, then putting
the center and edge focus adjustments on the lens in the middle position, then moving the projector to get a well focused screen. Move
it forward or back a little to adjust screen size and see if it will refocus properly at that location. Obviously you wouldn't want to place
the projector in a location where the lenses aren't able to focus on it.
Press the HELP button on the Marquee remote and you can go through a full guided setup procedure, which will be displayed on your screen. It's not a bad way to get acquainted with the machine.
The Marquee setup manual is available at VDC's website. www.vdcdisplaysystems.com

Athanasios | goes to check it out? 400 miles round trip up and down I-70 during ski season is about the last trip in the world I want to make. I think crossing the Ande's on a Lama would be more anjoyable
I sold a plasma TV once to a guy on the "other side" of the rocky's and he was glad to pay the $80. freight just to avoid the drive. There's been times where people sat up there in their cars for a couple of days and had to be evacuated to shelters.

yes it could be the G2 values are too high, this usually causes a horizontal lines across the tube
like this:
if you follow the link i gave to you at Tim's site it tells you how to adjust G2 values for a
fairly close Greyscale.

Cmjohnson, the projector has 703 hours run time and 0 hours in stand-by. Looks like some guys are getting a few thousand hours on their tubes so I'm guessing there is some life left on these?
I'm glad you mentioned centering the focus and placing the projector that way, it was the logical direction I was going to head in
The noise on the CRT is not like solid lines, more like static(white noise) with a pattern to it like I said though, I will attempt a photo when I get home today. I know it's abstract without a visual.

OK NOW you REALLY SUCK!
Tubes on a well set up projector can go 10 000+ hours if you treat them right.

Glad to suck if it means there is good life left in this unit. Would be a major bummer to put in a bunch of work just to have a tube go after a few minutes of movie.
I will shine a light into the tubes when I get home to see if they reflect white...

Tubes don't just "go"...pretty much ever. If you have a sudden tube failure (outside of the Barco 10xx sets), 99% of the time it is caused by an electronic failure. Even better, electronic failures that take out tubes are extremely rare, especially if you take the right action (never unplug your set if the brightness starts to runaway, brighter and brighter...then you can kill your tubes). The beauty of these units is repairability and tube life.

A few hundred hours is what I expected. Aspen is a playground for rich people, as in REALLY rich people. That dirt-bag who ran the Enron scam died in Aspen.
So up there you regularly find mint condition, uber-expensive things being thrown away that normal people can only dream about. I remember reading a story in the paper about the Aspen city dump. They were getting so much exotitc furniture and electronics in perfect shape they actually opened a section for people to come and grab free stuff. I think there's even a few people in Aspen, like maybe the folks that work in the resorts, who supplement their income quite nicely by checking the dump and selling it on flea-bay.
I'm not much a dumspter diver but I'm not too proud to say that the thought of finding a pair of "oudated" Mark Levinson amps at the dump would likely make it a regular stop for me.

Dude, Levinson amps are overrated paperweights. Just leave them there and PM me about it..... i'll arrange for their "removal"

703 hours would qualify as "barely broken in yet". My tubes have under 300 hours on them.
As for Levinsons...I got a pair of Krell KMA-160 monoblocks for 500 bucks plus shipping. I did have to rebuild them myself,
but they've been non-stop reliable for nine years now. They'd been in a house fire. Not burned, but water damaged as a result of
being hosed down by the fire department. No major damage, just lots of corrosion to deal with.

Here is a photo of the raster noise, a side note you don't see any solid bar on the raster like there appears to be in the photo?
I removed the prescribed board and messed with the U16 chip (havn't gotten it out yet so just moving it around to see if that helps). I have not however found the U35 chip yet. I posted a thread asking for a pic, but if you want to through one up here I'd be greatful.
P.S. what is the trick for popping out the chips?

Just put the board back in (post wiggling) and it's significantly better. So I think I'm on the right path. The noise is better but the bright dot is still there. It only happens on the red and green, not the blue...

Wait have you checked you G2 values yet? Put up the internal patterns, the stair step grey scale patterns. Once up do each color separate by pressing color, 1(red) color 2(green), color 3(blue) look at the stair step(greyscale) pattern for each color the second darkest rectangle should be barely visible. If its very easy to distiguish between the darkest and second darkest then your G2's are too high and that is what could be causing the noise. that needs to be addressed soon.
